Gertrude Stein (1874 - 1946) wurde durch einen Satz weltberühmt: "Eine Rose ist eine Rose ist eine Rose ist eine Rose." Weltberühmt und doch unbekannt. Nur wenige wissen, was diese extravagante und extrovertierte Frau als Literatin geleistet hat: Sie schrieb unverständliche Gedichte, eher konventionelle Romane und unaufführbare Dramen. Eine Avantgardistin, Vorläuferin des Absurden, die sich nicht beirren ließ - auch nicht von vernichtenden Kritiken - und einen Stil fand, der sich auszeichnet durch seine Musikalität.
Engagiert, originell und höchst persönlich führt C. Bernd Sucher zusammen mit der Schauspielerin Mechthild Großmann durch Leben und Werk von Gertrude Stein. Weitere Sprecher sind Jennifer Sabel und Andreas Thiele.
Der Autor:
Prof. Dr. C. Bernd Sucher, in Bitterfeld geboren, studierte in Hamburg und München Germanistik, Theaterwissenschaft und Romanistik. Zwischen 1980 und 2005 war er Theaterkritiker bei der Süddeutschen Zeitung, seit 2005 schreibt er für Die Zeit. Seit 1998 leitet er den Studiengang Theater-, Film- und Fernsehkritik der Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen an der Bayerischen Theaterakademie August Everding.
