Der vierzehnjährige Antonio, Lehrling in den so geheimen wie gefährlichen Künsten des Feuerwerks, ist mit seinem Meister, dem berühmten Gaetano Ruggieri in der englischen Hauptstadt eingetroffen. König George II hat den beiden Italienern eine ungewöhnliche Aufgabe übertragen: die Errichtung einer flammenspuckenden Zaubermaschine im Green Park. Und so wird Antonio Zeuge der abenteuerlichen Umstände, unter denen Händels unsterbliche Feuerwerksmusik entsteht.
