Publisher's Summary

Someone had spent time with her – someone well-practised in the art of pain....

Three and a half years ago, former Grant County medical examiner Sara Linton moved to Atlanta, hoping to leave her tragic past behind her. Now working as a doctor in Atlanta’s Grady Hospital, she is starting to piece her life together. But when a severely wounded young woman is brought in to the emergency room, she finds herself drawn back into a world of violence and terror.

The woman has been hit by a car but, naked and brutalised, it’s clear that she has been the prey of a twisted mind. When Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Investigation Team returns to the scene of the accident, he stumbles on a torture chamber buried deep beneath the earth. And this hidden house of horror reveals a ghastly truth: Sara’s patient is just the first victim of a sick, sadistic killer.

Wrestling the case away from the local police chief, Will and his partner Faith Mitchell find themselves at the centre of a grisly murder hunt. And Sara, Will, and Faith - each with their own wounds and their own secrets - are the only thing that stands between a madman and his next crime.

Unrehearsed?

Sometimes l get the feeling that the narrators have not read the book before their performance and the narrative becomes disjointed, losing intended meaning, at times even a little boring and certainly lacking professionalism. Contrast your average story-teller with the books you've listened to read by a professional actor - no comparison!
And so it is with this book and while the plot is interesting to a point, something is missing, ah that's it, more story around the villain please.
Not the usual talented fiction l've come to expect from this author and absolutely a poor narration.

Best book so far in the Will Trent Series

I could not put this down, the plot was amazing,.... BUT the narration of FAITH MITCHELL was annoying - hopefully 'Faith' does not continue on the path of a whining, shrill & bitchy character. Only part that ruined the other awesome book.

Good but too many angry women

Interesting story but too many angry women and placid men. The narrator’s tone grated as well.

A real struggle

Trashy novel
Many Plot holes in police procedures
Unrealistic private lives of all the main characters
Voice of female detective like a wimpy cartoon character - sorry Karen Slaughter but this one is not any match compared to your previous work - what happened ?

Not for the faint hearted

A but overdone at times, the author got carried away with just how much can be inflicted upon a person. Certain sections were not fully explained but the story is hard to put down. Don't read before bed or after eating.

Riveting, what a book!!

Karin Slaughter has brought it once again with a story that kept me stuck to the book until the end. I can’t wait to read the next instalment in the Will Trent Series.
