Publisher's Summary

"In 1980, my life as a 'Goodfella' came to an end… I traded my Brioni and Armani suits for T-shirts and jeans. I became a normal citizen. I became Joe Schmoe," says Henry Hill, author of Gangsters and Goodfellas and subject of Wiseguy, which was the inspiration for the blockbuster film Goodfellas.

After a quarter of a century of silence, Hill can finally tell us the rest of the story, Gangsters and Goodfellas picks up where Wiseguy left off, taking readers on the crazy ride of Henry's life - hiding out in the Witness Protection Programme, doing prison time for drug charges, testifying in high-profile, heavily guarded mafia trials, leaving his wife and children and eventually ending up in the entertainment business.

Including an exclusive selection of photographs from Henry's personal collection, Gangsters and Goodfellas also reveals Henry's lifelong struggle with addiction, his 'business' relationships that have ranged from mob bosses to movie producers and how, through everything, he survived.

Henry Hill, the inspiration for the book Wiseguys and movie Goodfellas is the co-author of A Goodfella's Guide to New York and The Wiseguy Cookbook. He lives in Los Angeles. Gus Russo, a critically-acclaimed investigative reporter and author of The Outfit and Live by the Sword, lives in Baltimore.

Boring Whinge

One long self serving whine from Hill about life in the Witsec programme. I came away with the impression that this guy has gotten away with being a complete scumbag all his life yet still acts like he is some kind of martyr. My advice would be don't buy this book and put any more money in his pocket. I wish I hadn't. It's boring anyway.

Well performed and interesting.

Considering this is a six hour long whinge, it held my attention pretty well. Lots of interesting insights and stories, I get the impression that all the main events are truthful, although Henry's descriptions of his own sexual prowess are fairly bile-inducing, and can perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt.

Very Good without too much violence.

Was a great read! very good to have a mob story that was very factual but not too much violence. Love or hate Henry you have to admire his ability to keep changing in moulding to the environment.

I Enjoyed It!

I found the narration very good.
I'm interested in Mafia stories and read this book when it first came out but enjoyed it much more by listening.

Disingenuous rehash of goodfellas and whining....

The book itself I imagine is the real issue. Goodfellas would appear to have covered the meat of this chap's story. I had rather hope for insight into WITSEC etc, but to be honest the vaguely OK bits are merely repeats of old content and anything new is self-aggrandizing waffle read but a chap who I can't make my mind up about. He has this really annoying whiny way of describing the downbeats of the book. Unfortunately, that's 50% of the content, and this the cadence of the book seems to bounce along in an odd see-saw way. At the end of the day, there is nothing to see here apart from a deluded has-been wax lyrical about the past, while drinking away the present.

Excellent choice

I really enjoyed this book. It gives an insight to what Henry had to deal with when he became a supergrass. Highly recommend.

Not bad

Story more less about witness protection time rather than actual drug dealing etc.. Very well narrated and interesting all in all.
