Story
"The Suck" - the virus that claimed 97 percent of humanity - is gone. The arrival of other survivors with a different take on the future may be as dangerous as the virus itself. Publisher's Summary
Is time travel possible?
Paulette Brown thinks so. She is a brilliant young lady who has solved what other scientists around the world could not — how to travel through time.
When she travels 250 years into the future, Paulette finds herself in a post-apocalyptic world, where the city of Seattle has been destroyed and is now under water. Panicked, she tries to return to the present, but something goes terribly wrong and she finds herself stuck in this destroyed world.
There she must learn how to survive and find people who might help her get back home — if that’s even a possibility.

Love it!
Paulette is the smartest human alive.... she is destined to do everything she dreams of and she does just that. Her brain may even be a little to perfect as she never makes mistakes. Unless you take in to consideration she is blind to Greg also being in love with her. Maybe she is too smart for her own good! Love her southern accent. I know that accent can make people think you aren’t smart. I have one too. She is strong, capable and ready to take on anything. You can’t help but fall in love with her. If you love time travel and/or apocalyptic worlds you will love this too. Narration by Yasmine M was excellent. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great Premise; Not So Great Execution
Post-apocalyptic fiction is high on my favorite genre list. I look for authors who use a different tack to tell their story. 'Future Apocalypse: Beginnings' certainly fits that bill. Because of the unique setting, I requested a free review copy of this audiobook, and am now leaving this voluntary review. in this first book of the 'Future Apocalypse' series, Paulette, a brilliant engineer, dreams of building a machine that will allow her to travel through time. I was excited to listen to this book. Unfortunately, i had some problems with it. I'm not entirely sure the book is meant to be YA, but the dialogue and plot makes me think it is. Actually, there were moments I thought the plot was simplified to middle reader level. The plot is full of implausibilities and unanswered questions. Most of the science in the book is given a hand-wave. I almost feel like the author wants the reader to think it's magic without specifying that there is a magical element to the time travel. Dialogue was also simplistic and stilted. There's a lot of internal monologuing among most of the characters. This is a pet peeve of mine. It's a tell-not-show tactic when the author should be employing a show-don't-tell method to their storytelling. The author should be able to show the reader what a character is thinking by their actions and/or conversations with other characters. I especially dislike this technique when it requires a POV shift within a scene. The pacing of the plot is all wrong. Some things that are important get glossed over (the making and working of the time machine) and other plot points are belabored and over-detailed (the robotic prosthetics business). Characterizations are not consistent. Paulette is supposed to be super-intelligent and want to help people but there are multiple scenes that contradict these qualities. In fact, I don't think Paulette is very smart or kind but she goes around telling everyone that she is. The entire future segment of the book has so many plot holes that it becomes unbelievable. Since this is the part that interested me to begin with, I'm even more disappointed by this section of the book. Another pet peeve: cliffhanger. Narration by Yasmine M is much too fast. I normally listen at 1.0x speed and found this book to be very rushed at that speed. There are no pauses between scene breaks, giving me a feeling of being pushed beyond a comfortable listening pace. I tried 0.8x speed and found it to be too slow. She has a monotone cadence that is accentuated when voicing male characters.

it's a good premise
There were things I liked and things I didn't. I felt like things were too rushed in some places with a lot more telling instead of showing and then sometimes when there was dialogue, it seemed almost added just to have some in it. the characters could definitely use more development

Good story. Looking forward to book two.
I enjoyed the book. I wish she would've gotten to the post apoc world sooner, but once she did the story really picked up. The new world is interesting. The narration is good, but I didn't care for most the voices. I found speeding the book up helped with this a bit.

Cool story!
I love the story line. Time traveling to an apocalyptic future, although that wasn't the intent. Getting stranded in the future too! Very cool concept for the story and I very much enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes. I wasn't crazy about the narrator at all though. She does have a good voice. When she's doing her narrator voice, it's pleasant. It's her character voices, accents, and horribly mispronounced words that I didn't care for.

Great start!
This was a really engrossing story. I loved the fun little Easter eggs sprinkled in. I look forward to reading more in this series . Well done. Edited on Nov. 2, 2020 : This is my second time listening to this story, as I just got a copy of book two. I really love time travel stories. This is a really smart and interesting story about a child prodigy who grows up to continue her genius as an adult. Despite overwhelming odds, Paulette succeeds beyond her wildest dreams... and nightmares. Really fun story. The narrator did a great job.
