Ralph Neighbour repeatedly says, “Theology must breed methodology.”Joel Comiskey has arrived at the same conclusion. Biblical truth is the only firm foundation for anything we do. Without a biblical base, we don’t have a strong under-pinning upon which we can hang our ministry and philosophy. We can plod through most anything when we know that God is stirring us to behave biblically.

Story
We know that the goal of the Christian life is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. While this is God's ultimate plan, does he have a particular purpose for the cell-based church? I've been wrestling with this question for the past 22 years. This question confronts me every time I coach a pastor or pastors. In preparation for coaching, I ask myself, "What is my principal objective in helping this pastor?", "Where am I guiding this church?", and "What am I trying to do?". I've come to the conclusion that the primary goal of cell ministry is to make disciples who make disciples.

But it doesn't have to be this way. The Bible makes it clear that the position of victory is seated. Seated in Christ.

The Furious Longing of Humanity
I purchased this audiobook with the sheepishness with which one might purchase a fluffy romance novel. Surely it would merely be the source of sweet, easy, idealistic remarks about God and His Love-- why was I buying this? Would I even be able to believe what the author was saying?
How wonderfully wrong I was. With apologies to Brennan Manning-- I didn't realize who you were, or what you stood for. Readers, this is a man who has both attended the opera with millionaires, and lived in a garbage dump in Mexico. He has been voluntarily incarcerated in Switzerland, and voluntarily exiled to a cave for months on end. He has served as a respected priest, and he has woken up barefoot and hung over; homeless and soaked in his own vomit.
It may be fair to say that Manning is an Everyman of sorts-- and he manages to emerge from this human-all-too-human experience, not only with his faith intact but with his heart ablaze, luxuriating in the ecstasy of his very tangeable, direct, and real experience of God's love.
I hope it makes sense when I say that this isn't trying to be a 5-star book. It doesn't philosophize, or even really explain its ideas in detail. It doesn't address every what-if that might arise. It doesn't even really say anything that hasn't been said before.
Like many liberal Christians, Manning equates loving God with loving people. Unlike many of these same writers, he doesn't stop there. I felt that he was giving us all permission to want something more-- something much much more-- something compelling to the point of being physical-- in our act of relating to God and to God's love.
I don't doubt that Manning's willingness to serve God and humanity in extreme ways is directly related to the soaring heights of rapturous joy he experiences in prayer. My own life is much more conventional in both repsects. However, I take a certain delight in knowing that a faith like Manning's is even possible-- that it exists at all, albeit not for me.

Abba, I belong to you.
Would you listen to Furious Longing of God again? Why?
The words from this book penetrate the very lies we tell ourselves about God. We are taught to believe that God doesn't love us and holds a record of our wrongs. Brennan Manning helps to bring clarity to the topic of God's love through his own life experiences and loving words. You can feel the love of God as you listen to this book. Your heart can't help but be exposed to what it is really like knowing and accepting the fact that your are loved and longed for.

Another incredible book by Brennan Manning!
Would you listen to Furious Longing of God again? Why?
I have listened to it 3 times since purchasing it a few weeks ago. The concept and participation of receiving God's unconditional love for me and His most awesome grace is always a battle within our human condition. Brennan speaks so clearly to that.
What did you like best about this story?
There is a chapter called "Healing" that steps out at this time from the rest and really hit me. Brennan speaks of how God is calling each of us to participate in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. He goes on to say, "Healing is the response to a crisis in the life of another person. It's enough of a response, a satisfactory response to a crisis in the life of another. And wherever the word "crisis" is used in the Greek New Testament (krisis), it is translated in English as "judgement". That's right - judgment. Healing is a response that I make to a decisive moment in the life of a brother or sister; whether I respond or not, I have made a judgment. Healing becomes the opportunity to pass off to another human being what I have received from the Lord Jesus; namely His unconditional acceptance of me as I am, not as I should be. He loves me whether in a state of grace or disgrace, whether I live up to the lofty expectations of His gospel or I don't. He comes to me where I live and loves me as I am."
In a world of condemnation and doubt, we need to judgment like this to share with one another! It reminds me a bit of something C.S.Lewis said in a sermon years ago called "The Weight of Glory". How we either can bless a person towards God or curse a person further away from God by our words, thoughts, and deeds as we interact with that person. It has been a while since I have read that, so I am paraphrasing from my memory. But that whole idea of acceptance and blessing which we cannot do until we have received the same from our Lord Jesus, and made it a part of ourselves - not just head knowledge - is so good!
What does Dan Cashman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like his voice - it sounds like Brennan.

A powerful paradigm shifting read.
The Furious Longing of God by Brennan Manning is a powerful paradigm shifting read. In the end there will be two types of people: those who have experienced and responded to the furious longing of God and those have not. What is the furious longing of God? The unstoppable, unfailing, never ending, all powerful love of God for you. If you have ever struggled with believing that God truly cares about you and your life then this book is for you.

This is the first book that I have listened to by this author. I found myself weeping at times and praising God at other times. It touched my heart and soul. When the book ended it left me wanting more. Several of his other books are now on my wishlist. Very thankful for this book and will be listening to it again.
