Die originalen Schallplatten der "Altmeister des Humors" zählen zu den großen Raritäten. Nachdem sie in den 1930er Jahren erschienen waren, wurden sie in der NS-Zeit aus den Schallplattenkatalogen entfernt. Der Nachlass von Fritz Grünbaum (1880-1941) umfasst nur eine kleine Handvoll Schallplatten.
Grünbaum begann seine Karriere im Wiener Kabarett "Die Hölle" als Conférencier und wurde schon bald danach nach Berlin engagiert. Ab 1914 war er Teil des Simpl-Ensembles, wo 1921 auch der junge Karl Farkas (1893-1971) seine Tätigkeit aufnahm. Der 13 Jahre jüngere Farkas wird bald zum idealen Partner für Fritz Grünbaum. Gemeinsam gelten sie als die Väter der "Doppelconferénce". 1938 musste Karl Farkas vor den Nazis ins Exil fliehen.
