Hölderlin ist wie Tiefseetauchen: fremd und gefährlich! Fremd, weil Hölderlin immer ein Fremder war, in der Fremde lebte und selbst seine geliebte Heimat wie ein Fremder beschrieb, mit aller Liebe, aber immer eigenartig fremd. Verglichen mit heute war sein Reisezirkel sogar eher begrenzt. Und dennoch brach er innerlich zu Ufern auf, die fremder gar nicht sein können. Denn sein geliebtes Griechenland, das Thema unzähliger seiner Gedichte, sein Land, seine Seelenwelt hat er nie zu Gesicht bekommen. Nie! Hölderlin hat sich letztendlich an seiner eigenen Idealisierung zu Grunde gerichtet. Das Land, nach dem er sich so sehr sehnte, gab es nicht, für ihn jedenfalls nicht. Sehnsucht, immer die Sehnsucht, die unerfüllte Sehnsucht. Und weil es so war, hatte er keine andere Wahl, als sich aus dieser Welt zu verabschieden und in den Wahnsinn zu fliehen.
