Publisher's Summary

Everything about Fiona is forbidden.

She has dark desires she can't explain.

She's beautiful, irresponsible, irresistible.

She's my patient.

I'm her therapist.

I'm past wanting her. Past possessing her. Past bedding her or protecting her.

I'm willing to be self-destructive, negligent, brave, audacious, and stronger than I ever believed possible.

She's blunt force trauma to the heart, and she calls another man Master.

Not one of my favorites

Did not realize what the subject matter of the plot was and the struggle that lay ahead for the main character so at times it was a little difficult to listen to. At least at the end of the struggles the ending and the epilogue were happy. Probably won't be listening to it again though. Saved by two of my favorite narrators!

Love CD Reiss, just Don't love this book.

I wanted to like this book... but it just wasn't my personal taste. It's depressing. The love scenes are abusive and dark. Even Sebastian York's seductive voice couldn't make this book sexy. It sat in my library for at least a month. The beginning was boring and the middle is just messed up. I kept trying to go back to it at different time's to see if it got more interesting. At this point I'm just going to throw in the towel. I'm bummed out and my ears are bleeding.

Ok

Should have been a lot shorter. I found myself skipping chapters. It was very repetitive and at times, boring. There were some very nice parts but the parts that included sex weren't very exciting at all. Overall, I could have skipped this one.

Interesting storyline

This storyline was a first for me. It wasn't really my cup of tea but the concept was interesting. I felt like I spent more time being mad at the characters than I did loving them.

The narration was good, no complaints.

Hard to get into this one

I likely won’t read anything from this author again, this book took so long to get into… it moved so slow and took me a long time to even enjoy the character. I was just mainly confused and frustrated in the beginning trying to sort her thoughts and even to hear them. Everything just seemed like a blur until almost the end.

I just didn’t really enjoy the story line or the characters, aside from the doctor.

Awful book unless you like torture

I made it through about 4 hours before I gave it up! Rough sex, drugs, sad story. It might get better in the end and this is a good writer but the subject matter was awful! Depressing mental institution and forced sex!

Must Listen!

I was scared I wouldn’t like this book due to some of the reviews, it covers some hard topics but it is really well done and a must read in CD Reiss’s Drazen family books it gives so much insight in to not only Fiona but also Margie, Jonathan & Declan

Perfect read for the broken and aware

Reading romance novels after living through trauma is challenge. Mundane love is more of a fairytale than a Disney movie for me. I was nervous when choosing this one. I expected to be triggered. That this would be a painful read... but it was oddly healing. To be able to relate to characters painfully yet beautifully aware of the jagged cracks in their lives made me feel less alone.

The journey through coping and growing. The twisted way some sexual needs are a balm to a damaged soul. The fight to stop self medicating so you can heal. Accepting love even when you cannot yet love yourself.

Some would find this book overwhelming and disturbing considering the content. I found it pulled me out of my self imposed isolation and let light in the broken places my life has left on my soul.

Though I have never known a life of financial security.. everything else was so visceral and raw. No sugar coating... I loved it. More of this please!

Blech!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I don't know anyone who would like this. If I do, I don't know how I would bring it up.

Was Forbidden worth the listening time?

I did listen to the whole thing, but it was tough. The subject matter is just beyond my comfort zone. If the point is for the reader to become desensitized to the sex and violence, but it was actually quite gross.

Kind of a let down

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. If I was the author, some things would be different. The budding relationship developed very slow; which is fine, except, it went from 0 to Mach 5 in two chapters. There story should have been as long and complete as Jonathan and Monica's. We did not get to experience any of the joy of their love. The story goes from them getting together to 16 years later from one chapter to the next. This story also did not stir the emotions that J and M's story eithet; not even close. The ending left me with more questions than answers. I really do love this author but, honestly, this was 1/2 the novel as it could have been. :(

Read it

Part of a wonderful, complex family saga. Fantastic characterisations and stories full of intrigue and drama. Not for the easily offended.
Very skilled narration in the audiobook which added to the power of the stories.
Start from the first book.

Simply stunning!

An absolutely brilliant book expertly narrated by Shayna Thibodeaux and Sebastian York. This book is so incredibly intense that it is sometimes possible to miss some detail in your haste to read it. Listening to it performed so damn well provides layers, texture and nuances which just make it an even richer experience.
