Story
Former CIA officer James ‘Wes’ Wesley paid the ultimate price for his patriotism when he was locked up in a French jail for an anti-terror operation gone wrong--abandoned by the Agency he served, shunned by his colleagues and friends, cut off from his family. Now he is shattered by the news that his ex-wife, Rachel, a State Department analyst, has been killed in a terrorist attack in Spain. He also discovers that his young son, Ethan, is missing. But Wes didn’t know he had a son--until now. Why was Rachel in Spain? And why did she keep his son secret from him?

Story
FBI consultant Amos Decker and his colleague, Alex Jamison, are summoned to the remote North Dakota Badlands when a hunter discovers the remains of a woman out on the Great Plains. She appears to have had a postmortem performed on her, reminiscent of those seen on TV cop shows – but this time, there was no slab, morgue or camera in sight. The reason why Irene Cramer’s murder merits an FBI investigation becomes rapidly clear when key questions surface about the woman’s mysterious past.

Author Kevin Wignall can do much better
English writer (although born in Brussels) Kevin Wignall is a much better author than For the Dogs indicates. This suspense thriller is very disappointing for such a talented if inconsistent, writer. I suggest that even his fans skip this one.

Enjoyed film Hunters Prayer better
Although the first half & build up was suspenseful like the movie, the climax involving the protagonist becoming a sociopathic killer was very dark and not as satisfying as the happy ending in the movie

What a waste of time!
So, this beautiful rich girl's parents and brother are executed and she soon enters the ranks of international hit men, going so far as to callously execute her two young and supposedly beloved cousins. That's after she blew up a hotel building and killed innocent victims with never a care. Oh, and the cops never come close to catching the hit men, no matter how public their murders. I suspect Kevin Wignall knows as much about hit men as I do. Which is nothing.
