A cozy mystery paranormal romance

Welcome to Everlasting, Maine, where there's no such thing as normal.

Anna Crawford is well aware her town is filled with supernaturals, but she isn't exactly willing to embrace her paranormal gifts. Her aunt says she's a witch-in-denial. All Anna wants is to live a quiet "normal" life and run her business, Witch's Brew Coffee Shop and Bakery. But everything is about to be turned upside down the moment Jackson Argent walks into her life.

Jackson isn't sure why he agreed to come back to his boyhood home of Everlasting. It's like a spell was cast and he couldn't say no. Covering the Cranberry Festival isn't exactly the hard-hitting news this reporter is used to. But when a local death is ruled an accident, and the police aren't interested in investigating, he takes it upon himself to get to the bottom of the mystery. To do that, he'll need to enlist the help of the beautiful coffee shop owner.

It soon becomes apparent things are not what they seem and more than coffee is brewing in Everlasting.

An Enjoyable Cozy Mystery

Michelle M Pillow is a new author to me as is the narrator B.J. Harrison and I have no idea why that is. It’s a cozy mystery set in Everlasting, Maine (love the name) and one that I found enjoyable.
There are twists, turns and surprises in Fooled Around and Spelled as Anna Crawford buries her head in the sand as she tries to deny her paranormal abilities and focus on running Witch's Brew Coffee Shop and Bakery (again I just love the name).
All that changes when Jackson Argent, a reporter returns home to Everlasting to report on the local festival. When a a body turns up, he isn’t satisfied with the findings and decides to investigate and asks Anna to help him. What follows is a story filled with romance, mystery, humour, secrets and danger, with enough clues to satisfy my inner detective spirit.
The narrator BJ Harrison was also new to me but I thoroughly enjoyed the voices that were used and they brought the story to life for me and enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

Nope. This One Is Bad, Too.

What a waste. I don’t even know how to review this book because it’s just, sort of, nothing. There really is no coherent story. It’s kind of in offensively bad, yet irksome at the same time because some of it might have made for an okay story. It’s just bizarre.

The hero’s paranormal power is creepy af yet no one even bats an eye at it, and the heroine just accepts that he tries to use it on/towards/around her.
The first time they meet he goes to her work and is like “Are you so and so?” and she’s just too busy and he sort of just leaves.
The next time they meet is pretty much the same, until someone is murdered, and I guess they decide to investigate it even though there’s no reason she would do so, but it was kind of muddled.
Then they spend about 20 minutes “investigating” in between her job and lots of boring conversations with each other. Then after spending almost no time on their investigation being “so frustrated that they haven’t figured it out!”.
Also what’s his name, hunter shop owner guy, gives our heroine, a photographer on the side, a magic camera, but then tells her later he never thought she’d use it.
Then the two main characters sleep together for some reason, and even more baffling is his big declaration of how much he loves her and is utterly bewitched by her blah blah blah, which would be fine if there was any build up to it at all.
Both characters are kind of annoying and the whole thing is strange. I liked Jana DeLeon’s and Kristen Painter’s installments. Two bad they only have one book each so far.

Another mixed offering

The paranormal mystery aspect continues to be fun, but they should really rein in the romance side of these books. Not as bas as book two in that respect but...
