Critic Reviews
"Excellent... Follows the story's trail like a good old hound dog... This five-part documentary from Audible was made in the US by the writer and broadcaster Danny Robins, and reveals new aspects of Johnny Cash's famous 1968 Folsom Prison gig - he's unearthed some excellent first-hand witnesses." (Sunday Times)
"★★★★☆ A reminder of how deeply incarceration can scar the soul." (The Times)
"Folsom Untold is the fascinating story of Johnny Cash's comeback prison album... Told in remarkable detail... Robins, a British presenter last heard hosting the Haunted podcast, assembles an impressive cast here, criss-crossing the US to visit producers, reporters, musicians and commentators, all of whom share their recollections of Cash. It's a fascinating story and the detail here is remarkable." (Financial Times)

The clickbait of podcasts
Lots of repetition, nothing really new. Content that could have justified maybe two episodes stretched out over five. Not worth the bandwidth to download.

Overhyped narrator
The narrator needs a sedative. The gushing hyperbole detracts from a an otherwise good story.

Still feels untold
The write up for this story boasts an investigation into the friendship between a Johnny Cash and inmate Glen Sherley who met as a result of Cash’s performance at Folsom Prison. Perhaps it is the fact it is squeezed into five 30ish minute segments but I felt this ‘investigation’ barely scratched the surface. Robins’ performance is good but maybe 50 years on from the Folsom performance is too long as many of the major players are since deceased and he becomes reliant on texts written in the interim. Robins does make use of what and who he has available still making this effort an interesting and compelling listen.

Bit repetitve
Great story but pretty repetitive so hard to listen to at times. Each episode repeated a significant part of the same info so quite distracting. Good story though

Revealing portrait of a great album
I had mixed feelings about this one. At first I found the narration a little over the top, and especially disliked the acted parts with a voice actor playing Cash. But after the first episode, the story really started coming together for me and by the end I found this to be poignant and quite touching. In many ways, the real thrust of the story is Glenn Sherley, and it's his story that makes the biggest impression on me.

Refreshingly different
I really enjoyed this. I am a fan of Johnny Cash so getting the back story on the events surrounding the Folsom prison album was intriguing and engaging. I enjoyed the style of production, like a documentary taking you on a journey of discovery with real life recordings of people involved in the story. More like a radio program than an audiobook.

Dull
Didn't finish, a real "so what" story which no amount of the narrator getting breathlessly excited about could disguise

Let this train pass you by
The only thing that kept me listening was to see where it was going, went nowhere of worth and had no substance along the way. Performance was dated too.

Interesting story, over eager narrator
I found the story very interesting. But the narrator is trying waaay too much, which at times has the opposite effect, than the intended. It takes away from the suspense rather than adds to it!

Ok.
Not groundbreaking but does tell a sad story of what was going on at the time.
