For half a century, we have been trained to believe that our right brain hemisphere is our emotional brain, while our left brain houses our rational thinking. Now neuroscience shows that it's not that simple: In fact, our emotional limbic tissue is evenly divided between our two hemispheres. Consequently, each hemisphere has both an emotional brain and a thinking brain. In this groundbreaking new book, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor presents these four distinct modules of cells as four characters that make up who we are.

As “Mormon royalty” within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Martha Beck was raised in a home frequented by the Church’s high elders—known as the apostles—and her existence was framed by their strict code of conduct. Wearing her sacred garments, she married in a secret temple ceremony—but only after two Mormon leaders ascertained that her “past contained no flirtation with serious sins, such as committing murder or drinking coffee.” She went to church faithfully with the other brothers and sisters of her ward.

As polyamory continues to make its way into the mainstream, more and more people are exploring consensual nonmonogamy in the hope of experiencing more love, connection, sex, freedom and support. While for many, the move expands personal horizons, for others, the transition can be challenging, leaving them blindsided and overwhelmed. Beyond the initial transition to nonmonogamy, many struggle with the root issues beneath the symptoms of broken agreements, communication challenges, increased fighting and persistent jealousy.

Powerful, Beautiful, Healing, Expansive
I love this book. Martha perfects her pace and doesn't rush. Her tone is so calming and centering. This makes a big difference. I happen to be in a stage of where this book really touched home. The audio exercises throughout are simple so that the attention can be on the practice & framework so that they're likely to be remembered and easily done in babysteps or integrated in the day to day. That said, I know I'm going to listen to this book over and over. I like that it includes a more expansive idea of what a north star is and it's expressed with such relaxed clarity. It's not all about labels and linear processes. There's space for the soul, the desert and the stars here. Thank you Martha. What a beautiful piece to give to the world.
