D. 3. januar 1960 flygtede tre fanger fra det berygtede fængsel Alcatraz, også kendt som ’The Rock’. De tre fanger Frank Lee Moris og brødrene John og Clarence Anglin flygtede om natten på en flåde væk fra øen, hvor fængslet lå. Flåden og mændene blev aldrig fundet igen. Det, der blev fundet, var en paddelåre.
