Publisher's Summary

The five children find a cantankerous sand fairy, a psammead, in a gravel pit. Every day 'It' will grant each of them a wish that lasts until sunset, often with disastrous consequences. Never out of print since 1902. The Introduction to this edition examines Nesbit's life and her reading, showing the change in childrens' literature from Victorian times.

Probably a good story, but narration was bad

The narration was intolerable. The narrator must have been turning his head away from the microphone, because the sound would drift off, then suddenly become very loud. I'll just have to read it instead of listen to it. I can't comment on the story until then.

one of my favorites

I read this book when I was a kid but the audio was nicer than reading it.

Lots of fun ensues when wishes go awry.

Be careful what you wish for. Delightful family story about 5 children who find a magical creature who grants them one wish each day, which disappears at sunset. It's fun to see how they get into all sorts of scrapes and try to find their way out of them. My boy very much enjoyed the story and asked if there were more. Turns out there are a couple more featuring the children & the Sammead.

Great story

Great story but the narration is a bit annoying. You get used to it because the book is so long though.

Great Book!

My 9 year old daughter's review of the book on audible: Great book! It was exciting, funny and good to listen to. My favourite character was Anthea and the funniest was The Lamb. I'm going to listen to The Pheonix and the Carpet next.
