  • Listen to Fishpriest. Available starting May 19th!

The Bronx, 1993. Crack is king. Crime is rampant. Tommy “Fishpriest” Barth - nicknamed after his weapon of choice, a club that’s meant to kill fish but works on people just fine - sees the chaos firsthand at Concourse Bail Bonds.

Today, Tommy’s a bounty hunter, but he was a cop up until two years ago, when an all-consuming undercover operation to bust one of the most notorious crime syndicates the city's ever seen - the Jamaican Shower Posse - destroyed his marriage, drove him to addiction, and cost him his badge.

Tommy thought he’d banished the JSP from the Bronx forever. But with the crack epidemic in full swing, they’re back - and they’re stronger. When Tommy’s ex-partner offers him a shot at redemption, he chooses to risk everything he’s rebuilt.

    Will he survive this time?

Ethan Hawke (Training Day) stars in this dark, thrilling, character-driven crime drama. This cinematic Audible Original is presented in eight-episodes with intense, wall-to-wall sound design and grim and gritty performances at a fever-pitch.

Nope

Hard to follow at first. Too much to take in - quick scene changes, too many characters in short time, reliant on sound effects that aren’t always clear. When I finally got the hang of it all, I realised I didn’t like the story. So… not for me.

I don't need to hear people chew, burp, etc

The voice talent is top notch but there is too much background noise. I get the picture when you say I saved you a roll; I don't need to hear you chew it. There is a lot of swearing but the sighing annoyed me more. There's a good story hidden in the noise but it's difficult to find it.

Bingeworthy!

Just listened to the entire series while driving long road trip home - so so good. Great story, amazing acting (Hawke is GREAT!) and felt like I was listening to a movie. Highly recommend!

Ever heard someone get the crap beat out of them?

Without disclosing too much, know that there are intense scenes of violence in this series. There is a form of realism that may trigger PTSD. The superior voice performance coupled with dynamic sound design will trick your subconscious into believing that you are listening to someone get the ever living crap beat out of them. If violence does not bother you, research what a "fish priest" looks like to help your imagination interpret what is being portrayed.

Very captivating story-line. This series will leave you hungry for more.

This one is SOLID

Heard the trailer and was into it right away. Four episodes in and it keeps getting better. How you gonna NOT love Ethan Hawke giving you all the Training Day vibes?? Good sh*t.

Awesome

A story about violence and revenge in NYC circa 1990s. Ethan Hawke Training Day meets GTA3. The story is highly compelling and podcast well produced.

People think this is good..?

I don’t get it. This series is corny and melodramatic. The dialogue is pretty ridiculous, the characters petty and juvenile. I guess it’s supposed to be edgy but it’s just adolescent.

The voice acting is good, but the dialogue and characters are just bad. The outline of the story itself could be interesting, but the execution is pretty terrible.

Outstanding

I never realized how good a podcast drama could be until I started listening to this one. The acting, writing, editing and sound design are absolutely stellar. I'm really blown away.

If you like NYPD Blue

It's corny, the acting, at times, and the script. It's a fun story, though. If you crave the old, 90s cop show vibe, here you go.

Fantastic- Consider me converted!

I'll be honest and admit I originally only got this because I'm an Ethan Hawke fan and I've not normally been able to stick with the format of this style of audiobook, however this one blew me away!
I honestly could picture everything as it happened, I loved the characters and backstory idea- the background noises and everything just made me feel as though I were watching a movie.
The story did end a little abruptly I though so lost one star for that but I did like how it ended- was just right and added to the realism.
I'd have preferred it to have been longer but that is only because I loved the series rather than because it needed it.

Highly recommended indeed!

I don’t get it

This is unusual in that there is no narration and little explanation. The story evolves purely in dialogue. Fair enough, nothing wrong with a bit of a different format

Some of the Jamaican accents were cringe worthy. It wasn’t clear what was going on - to me at least and it found I didn’t really care. Gave up half way through episode 3
