About this listen

Morgan Mars is doing everything he can to protect humanity from alien invasion.

But even his new organization, The First Line of Defence, isn’t enough to save what’s already lost. Sectors are collapsing like dominoes as the aftermath of the 20th Cycle invasion leaves everyone trapped in the falling Sectors. No one knows what to do. No one, that is, except Nicholas Thistlebush. He has a plan to save Sector 6. The only question is, what will it cost him?

There are so many elements of greatness in this story. The first chapter was mind blowing, really pulling on the heart strings. I didn't mind the change in main characters. And the story was ambitious! It's literally about a person who becomes a god and then does godly stuff!

Unfortunately, this story suffers from the first book's problem of being ultra confusing. By the end, I'd just sort of given up on understanding half of the systems. And characters. And quests.

The book was also a bit silly. Like, he's a pirate, but also a god, and he uses pistol to shoot down spaceships? I can see how the author was going for an anime giant-robots-fighting-spaceships vibe, but it doesn't quite work.

Even more confusing than the first book

If you are expecting the station dungeon to be a heavy focus then best to peel that bandaid off now as it takes a much reduced role in this book. Instead the focus shifts more to a player character who trying to save as many people as he could gains far too much power over a very short time and the consequences therein. Morgan is still in the book but has more focus on the development of Mars over his Station.

If you are looking for something to scratch that Dungeon Core itch then this won't do it for you but the nature of the game itself from a very different perspective, what it means to wield power and how you can go on just brute strength before needing to take a step back makes this still a very enjoyable ride.

Very different from the first book

Not the same as the first book, different, but be open to it and you'll really like it imo

Great book

The story was still good. just a bit jarring to not follow morgan. although he is actually prominent and you do hear from his point of view.

audio. marked down because it was confusing due to two diffrent voice actors only voicing their own chapters. This ment in a chapter from Nickolis viw Morgan was not voiced by the original actor in, nor Melody. it's jarring and makes it harder to work out whose talking. the voice actors themselves are great.

despite the audio, it is still enjoyable and I recommend.

Story still good audio challenging
