About this listen

A thrilling prequel adventure based on the acclaimed TV series Star Trek: Picard!

Two years after the USS Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, Seven of Nine finds herself rejected for a position in Starfleet and instead finds a new home with the interstellar rogue law enforcement corps known as the Fenris Rangers. The Rangers seem like an ideal fit for Seven—but to embrace this new destiny, she must leave behind all she’s ever known, and risk losing the most important thing in her life: her friendship with Admiral Kathryn Janeway.

After watching the latest Star Trek 'Long Trek' movie, Section 31 (which I couldn't stand!)... I listened to this story and wished IT had been the new movie! It gave Seven of Nine the intrim story from Voyager to Picard... and as far as I'm concerned, it was fantastic!!

To the other person who left the 0 rating: Sabotage is not welcome! Say's me, a 40 year, Star Trek Fan!!!

A GREAT STAR TREK STORY

The story was generally engaging, and there were moments of both good action and the diplomacy that you expect from Star Trek. The story was a very good length, and I feel like a lot happened from beginning to end.

It starts off very slow, and later picks up the pace. Part of this is necessary for the world building and it serves it's purpose. However, Seven's romances feel ham-fisted into the story and out of place. They have no direct impact and without them nothing would have changed. So I'm not sure why they're even there. That is my only complaint, the rest was very well written.

The performance of the narrator wasn't as good as I've heard in other Trek novels. It seemed like she only had about 2 of each male and female voices - so it was sometimes confusing who was talking, particularly when there were multiple people of the same gender in a given scene. I would have liked to have seen more unique voices for the characters. She was very good at her range for the voices that she did have, though - you could hear the voice trembling, or angry, etc as the scene demanded.

Yes I would recommend this novel to someone else. But it wouldn't be the first one I'd recommend if they are new to Trek novels.

Yes I would listen to another book by this author and/or this narrator.

Good story, but there are better Trek novels
