Can love really be found when you stop looking for it?

As Samantha Wishaw watches the love of her life marry another woman, she’s ready to give up hope of finding her happy ever after.

But when a chance encounter leads Sam to find friendship in Thomas - a lonely, grumpy elderly widower living at derelict Hedgehog Hollow - her life is about to change forever.

Glad to have a distraction from family feuds and match-making, Sam vows to fulfill Thomas and his wife Gwendoline's dreams of restoring Hedgehog Hollow to its former glory and to open a hedgehog rescue centre.

Throwing herself into the task at hand, little does Sam realise that the keys to love and happiness may also be found at Hedgehog Hollow, when she least expects it.

light and breezy

I did end up liking this book, but found it hard to get into at the start. Some parts were a little too corny and unfortunately I didn't enjoy the narrator. otherwise is was a nice story.

Just... ugh

Way too much angst. Sam is completely spineless and enables her families bad behaviour (borderline emotional abuse) dreadfully. I wouldn't have so much of an issue if the author dealt with the theme responsibly. Chloe and Sam's mother are narcissistic and abusive in their treatment of Sam, but it all just gets swept under the carpet by Sam. The message seems to be that Sam is better person for allowing her family to continue to treat her like dirt, rather than Sam is a victim in desperate need of a relational detox. Instead of a light read, all this angst turns this book into an exercise in frustration.

Hedgehog Hollow

Just loved this story, really got into it. Laughed, cried and lived through this story to the end It's a beautifully textured read. Leaves you feeling happy and settled. No untethered yarns. Enjoy.

Keep your tissues handy

Yes I cried.. several times like a baby.. Jessica wrote Sammie’s character so beautifully and with soo much depth.. And Emma bought the characters to life with her voice.. Every single one sounded different but all had soo much emotion.. Loved every minute of this book.. Can’t wait to hear New Beginnings at Hedgehog Hollow..

Thoroughly enjoyable!

Thoroughly enjoyed the book even if it was a bit predictable at times. The narrator was great but having to say the chapter number depleted the experience, particularly as there were so many and so often. Now I'm off to get the next one!

Nice light story, with a few little twists.
Listened while going on beautiful walks through headset, so easy to walk for 2 to 3 hours

Not my cup of tea

I did not relate to the heroine, I found her quite annoying, which may also be to do with the narration. The story was so obvious and juvenile - I’m sure 14 year olds would love it, not for me.

highly recommended!

not my usual choice of book but I'm glad I tried it. it had me laughing and crying but thoroughly enjoyed everything minute.
Samantha's battle for acceptance from her mother was dealt with very sensitively and the journey to find herself and her place in the world. the characters where all brilliantly explored and the narrator did an excellent job with voices and delivery

A really wonderful story

Absolutely loved this, even though it made me cry at times! :-) We are honoured to share our garden with Hedgehogs every year, and have done for the past 20+ years.
It's wonderful that accurate information about them and what can be done to help them has been woven into such a fantastic story.
Can't wait to listen to the next book in the series, and will then be impatiently awaiting the release of the forthcoming third installment too!
