Publisher's Summary

The lost city lies beyond a locked gateway. But the key is not what it seems....

Now a map-maker extraordinaire, Finch must find the place Erebus so desperately seeks - although the “how” and “why” remain unclear. And a certain vengeful Necromancer is bent on beating Erebus to the punch, and he’d be more than happy to make Finch collateral damage.

With his friends’ lives on the line, Finch will fall back on his old trickster ways to get his hands on the gateway’s key. In secret, he plans to uncover a loophole, a way to end his servitude for good. The answer might lie in Erebus’s past servants and their storied history with the djinn....

The djinn have lost their connection to Erebus, and Raffe doesn’t know how much longer he can cope before his alter ego goes insane. That’s the only reason he agrees to travel halfway across the world to find answers for Finch. Raffe aches to end the djinn curse that threatens his future with Santana, but he’d have to achieve the impossible: Separate himself from the demon within.

Love me some Finch

3.5 stars. The only reason this doesn’t get a 4 is because, like Finch, the snappiness of the other relationships (namely Raffe & Santana) made me want to make “a well timed vomiting noise.” Plus it’s not huge on action andthe good stuff doesn’t kick in until the end. I wish Finch had driven more of the story too. Amanda Ronconi’s narration was fabulous as usual, her portrayal of Finch is spot on - just the right amount of snark!

Made Djinn’s interesting again. This series could bankrupt me if it all came out at once!

You Need to Try Finch!

There is a lot of discussion about Finch's sister Harley Merlin and her adventures and the challenges of her story but you need to sit up and pay attention right now! FINCH Merlin rocks! He is the most 'human' of magicals. His wisecracking ways hide a soft centre and a side of the steeliest courage for when he has to fight out of the tightest corners, alone or side by side with new, or established, friends. The story flows at a good pace. There are surprises, fun and from Finch, courageous descriptions of coping with his mental 'gremlins'. The change of narrators allows the story and locations to shift with ease and the character shifts allow us to see inside other characters which is a real bonus. I am enjoying the series with Finch immensely!

Great series, but...

I love this series and I love the characters. But I hate the repetitive commentary. If people are this far into the books they already know who the characters are and what happened in the previous books. It doesn’t need to be constantly repeated every time.

Good story

The narrator was good, but sometimes the voices she uses all sound like the same person. It is hard to tell the difference between people sometimes.

Beautifully on par.

Another thrilling tale and wonderful adventure. This series is still running on full steam with no sign of slowing down. Long may these adventures continue, I for one am truly hooked.
