Publisher's Summary

This is book two in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series.

I never expected to watch Sophie walk away. She was mine. I would own her. She just didn't know it yet. New goal: Seal the deal and rock her world so thoroughly she would never want to leave again. Highly sexual and emotionally charged, Filthy Beautiful Love is the provocative conclusion to Filthy Beautiful Lies.

Great Story Line But...

Any additional comments?

I am writing this review based on Book 1 and 2 together

I really enjoyed this book. I loved reading a different twist on the millionaire meets the naive virgin story that has been told many times. I found myself really excited to see what happens next.

I loved that it wasn't an instalove story. Even thought it takes place over a few months the author showed the time passing so it wasn't always feeling like one day immediately after another.

I loved that the reaction to the "secret" was reasonable and not blown over the top and I loved that the resolve was also reasonable and didn't consist of either of them loosing themselves or doing something they didn't want to do.

Now for what I DON'T love...

I have a pet peeve with books that are two short novellas that should have just been one book. Why are we doing this?? It seems to be a trend that I'm seeing now and it is irritating. I don't feel like this book should have taken up TWO of my audible credits and I don't think I would have wanted to pay the almost $30 I would have had to pay for both books. I would love for someone to explain why this is being done outside of making more money for what should be one book.

Second the narrator had a great female voice and did great with the female parts, however I really wish she had a different tone for the male voice and would commit to it each time. There were times where I would have to pause the audio to do something else and then I would come back mid chapter and have to try to figure out who was speaking between the two main characters. I like when I can vision the male based on the voice and the character the author was writing should not have had a voice so feminine.

This could have been a 5 star book for me if not for these two things.

Loved this story.

This was a wonderful story that had me laughing and crying. The performance by Ava Erickson was spot on.

No male narrator?

I liked this book, but it needed a male narrator too. Also time wise, it was too short. A dual POV would have really added to this book. Shame these authors don't see this.

So many facets!

If you are in the minority view that sex in books and movies should only be implied or discussed in terms of making babies, skip this and... well, I really don't know. Life is messy and dirty and crushing passion is akin to crushing your soul! This is a very explicit author and is helping to break down the oppressive barriers that have been demanded of women since the dawn of our civilization.

I never attempt to give a cliff notes version nor will I every spoil the story for anyone.

My review:
This book has plenty of angst, passion, arousal, deadening, happiness, sadness, heartbreak, pain, fear, anger, depression, elation and more. While most books in this genre follow a recipe and use much of the same terminology, this book has some surprises that were unexpected and gave the story a true to life feel (except for a 28 year old guy with the ability to get aroused multiple times an hour 😉).

The female lead went from confident to unsure, elated to devastated, sane to crazy and felt real to me. The male lead went from confident and cocky to an emotional wreck and learned valuable life lessons that most in the romance genre never experience. The friends and family played important roles and, again, felt real in the way they supported the storyline. The fact that the author was able to show different sides to the supporting characters along with the main characters in a short novel was refreshing and impressive.

The first book was good and ended with a bang. This book covered so much and came across as two stories. If you liked the first book, this one, at least to me, was worlds above it. I would put it on my top ten list in this genre.

Easy listen

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Combine book 1 and 2 into one story and add a male narrator. I really enjoy Ava's narration but for the male POV I would have loved a male narrator.

Any additional comments?

Sweet low angst story that was enjoyable.

Should've been one 9-hour book instead of two.

I didn't pay attention that this was a 2-book series. The story was not BDSM as one would think after having virginity auctioned off. The first book was character development, second book the romance. Slow and steady wins the race.

Beautiful Love

Wow just wow. I don’t know how I expected this 2nd book to go but this story blew me away. The love that Colton has for Sophie is beautiful. What started out as a business agreement blossomed into something so beautiful. Then throw in some real-life situations that will bring you to tears and the way Colton tends to Sophie will melt your heart.
I also purchased the audio version because I love to listen along and read at the same time. Ava Erickson is a new voice to me and this is the second audio version of hers that I’ve listen to and I really enjoyed her.

Disappointing

After a strong start with book one, I was looking forward to the conclusion of this story. I was disappointed with the direction this story took. It was almost as if the original premise didn't happen. I felt like I was listening to the wrong book.

Spoilers ahead:
When the book opens, we learn Sophie left Colton's home. I immediately became confused. What? Why? How? I am expected to believe Colton allowed Sophie to walk away from the ending scene of book one and have enough time to flee his home without a single conversation? Too unbelievable. And beyond that, she actually left? She agreed to terms that bound her to his home for 6 months. I would have preferred she stayed and the story progressed with her struggling to maintain an emotional boundary from Colton while simultaneously holding up her end of the deal.

Again, the narration is confusing. A male narrator is needed for the male POV parts.

Not great

Performance good, and some heartfelt scenes, but overall story pretty poor and a lacklustre ending.
