Episodes
  • Ep. 1: The Birth of The Dark Web
    Feb 8 2018

[Contains explicit content] It's called the Dark Web, Dark Net or Deep Web but what is it? What makes this internet underground — rife with drugs, sex, and crime — possible? How do you even access the Dark Web?

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, has been looking into its shady origins and reveals why the U.S. Navy invented it in the first place.

  • Ep. 2: The Untold Story of The Dark Web
    Feb 8 2018

[Contains explicit content] The Dark Web's first success story was a drugs 'eBay.' Vendors sold narcotics and pharmaceuticals directly to each other freely and anonymously. Then the FBI shut it down and unmasked its owner, Ross Ulbricht. The sting operation was ridiculous.

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, speaks with a key player at the heart of the takedown. His story is astonishing.

  • Ep. 3: Bitcoin's Days Are Numbered
    Feb 8 2018

[Contains explicit content] If money makes the world go around, then Bitcoin keeps The Dark Web spinning. But what it is and how does it work? How can you run a currency based on trust when everyone who uses it is anonymous?

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, uncovers the mystery of Bitcoin — and speaks to the Royal Mint about this potential competitor currency.

if only the narrator could pronounce R's properly.

It was like listening to a bugs bunny cartoon at times, "you wastily wabbit". It's R, not W. A narrator should be able to speak properly.

Really interesting and in depth look

The author is a talented journalist who has clearly spent a lot of time thinking about the issues that the dark web poses in our society. He explores both the positive and negative sides of the issue of how anonymity effects people and society.

Enjoyable and informative

This was a great no nonsense listen. Straight into the detail and pitched at a perfect level for the average internet user. Covers all the major areas of the dark Web and has nice short previews of each episode at the start of them.

Will search out more done by Geoff White and team!

dark web explained to an extent

Enjoyable and honest basic explanation about the dark web in a social context, little to no information on how 'the onion router' system actually works. Very good reporting otherwise.

Eye opening

I did not know about this and really it just makes sense that it exists for all those sick destructive people. However I was more disgusted at the fact that it was a government agency that started it with no surprise that it was an American agency. What I don't get is if China can block the dark web ... why aren't other countries like the US doing the same??? We all know why
