Filihunkat – titlen er som de to tidligere et mærke for Ella på dette stadium af livet – kan læses som en selvstændig roman om en ung pige i tressernes begyndelse, før ungdomsoprøret og den nye kvindebevægelse og revolterne.
Ella går på studenterkursus. Hun bor til leje hos Voksen-Ella, skriver digte og får en kæreste. Voksenlivet åbner sig gradvist for Ella.
Da vi slipper hende er hun helt holdt op med at tænke "vi" om sig selv. Til gengæld er hun blevet en del af et virkeligt "vi".
