Publisher's Summary
Winter of the World is the second novel in Ken Follett's uniquely ambitious Century trilogy. On its own or consumed in sequence with Fall of Giants and Edge of Eternity, this is a spellbinding epic of global conflict and personal drama.
A Battle of Ideals
It is 1933 and, at Cambridge, Lloyd Williams is drawn to irresistible socialite Daisy Peshkov, who represents everything that his left-wing family despise. But Daisy is more interested in aristocratic Boy Fitzherbert, a leader in the British Union of Fascists.
An Evil Uprising
Berlin is in turmoil. Eleven-year-old Carla von Ulrich struggles to understand the tensions disrupting her family as Hitler strengthens his grip on Germany. Many are resolved to oppose Hitler’s brutal regime – but are they willing to betray their country?
A Global Conflict on a Scale Never Seen Before
Shaken by the tyranny and the prospect of war, the lives of five families become ever more enmeshed. As an international clash of military power and personal beliefs sweeps the world, what will this new war mean for those who must live through it?
Critic Reviews
"This book is peopled by excellent characters, both lovable and detestable, and I , along with millions of other Follett fans I’m sure – can’t wait for the third instalment of his Century trilogy to appear." (Shropshire Star)

Just as good as the first book
Really worth the listen, enjoyed the second instalment of the trilogy. Would’ve liked to have seen an everyday perspective of the Eastern Front perhaps in Stalingrad or on the front line. But can’t have everything. Great book.

Saga of the war years
It was a great history lesson, and I think a great deal was based on fact, for myself I enjoyed the family Saga's side of the book, but not really keen on the wars

Gripping, graphic, well researched
As per usual, another Ken Follet masterpiece. An absolute page turner. The narrator brought all the characters to life with his superb narration

A great insight into history
These books have taught me more about the world's political history than I ever could have learned elsewhere. He makes it so easy to get caught up in. The characters are so real.

Brilliant
These books are so wonderfully written and even more wonderfully narrated. Its a great way to revise history. Personally, though, I could do without the sex descriptions and the blasphemy.

my favourite trilogy
historical accuracy as the basis for these stories make for authentic characters that could be real life. I am in awe at the level of research that must have gone into telling the experiences of these woven lives. superb.
