Enjoyed but let down by the ending

Feel like the audiobook is incomplete as ended on a very odd note. I now see there are 7 books in the series. Do I have to buy them all to complete this story? Given that the author seems to have suddenly run out of inspiration for this book i’m not positive that I want to risk a credit on any others
