Publisher's Summary

India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who'll accept her - an enigmatic and mysterious man from America, a man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he's ill. Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won't tell India why any old one won't do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London's best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she's certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she'll find herself unemployed and homeless again - and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life. With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, The Watchmaker's Daughter is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the best-selling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and the Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

Couldn’t stop listening.

Great suspense unusual story. Didn’t want to stop listening. Twists and turns and main characters kept me questioning their characters.

Interesting enough

Although the story was interesting enough to keep me listening, i found that not a lot happens really. Just a bit slow and uneventful for me. I enjoyed the narrator.

great story and great performance

I loved this book it was different to what read before. Nice to have break from fantasy book which is about war or end of world. The performance was great and loved all the characters voice she does.

The book is in first person and normally, I have never been able to get into this format either reading or listening. However the combination of how it was written and performance I was hooked moment I heard the sample and the book did not disappoint . I could not stop reading/listening it.

The way it is written allows you to feel in moment and have sense of the scenery as well as all the characters different personalities even though from one view point and in first person. The main character is not annoying but interesting and strong. Overall great book. :)

Magnificent

I discovered this author from her Librarian of Crooked Lane and loved that book so much I searched for more. Finding this as the first of 13 books I was ecstatic to learn the back story of those in crooked lane. I loved this one equally and the narrator is fantastic!

Read this before the Glass Library Series

Good book, interesting characters who I am looking forward to getting to know better in the next book.
If I have one regret, it is that I read the Glass Library first, which kind of makes this series a prequel.
Despite this, I am downloading the next book in the series as I type this.

Could’ve been better

The narrator isn’t fantastic. Much prefer the narrator used for the rest of the series.
