Publisher's Summary

She never imagined she'd be widowed before the honeymoon was over.

After being raised in the foster care system, meeting and marrying the love of her life was a dream come true for Jess Bentley. For the first time in her memory, she would have a family of her own. But the dream turns into a nightmare when a drug-crazed thief shoots and kills her husband, leaving Jess alone again, trapped in the depths of despair, and struggling to find a reason to go on.

Knowing he could have prevented the tragedy, there's nothing he won't do to make it right.

Weighed down by guilt, Dan Mulholland is desperate to find a way to make life easier for the widow of the man his brother murdered. When he learns that she's pregnant, and that her father-in-law is threatening to take the child from her, there seems to be only one course of action. Marry her and adopt the baby.

    "Emotional Rollercoaster With Heartwarming Moments"

The author did a great job writing this book. It was a gripping story. I felt so many emotions while reading this story. It's a slow building romance after a very tragic event that brought together two people in the most unlikely way.

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. The story starts in a very difficult moment in Jess life. She had just gotten married and her husband was killed before their honeymoon was even finished. She is alone with thoughts of vengeance and when she is unable go after the man that murder her husband she decides to take matters into her own hands and perhaps end her own life.

Dan feels responsible for his brother's actions. He had tried to reach out for money but Dan shut him down because he knew it was to buy drugs.

The book has a HEA conclusion. Two unlikely people come together after a terrible tragedy and fall in love with each other.

Dan is such a sweetheart I couldn't help but fall in love with him as well. So many obstacles stand on their way and he does what he can to help Jess.

    "A 7 Star Story"

To begin with the perfect narrator for this story is the least I can say. Jess, Emmy, Dan, Emmy's husband, Dan's friends and Dan's family all make this a lively, complex, and wonderful story. I loved Coach because he instilled life long ethics in his boys.

Dan just wants to help Jess who's husband was killed on the last night of their honeymoon by Dan's drug crazed brother. What follows is a story of redemption, tragedy, love, and happiness, as well as forgiveness. Worth the credit.

I recieved this book in exchange for an honest review via adiobook blast.

    Story
"It felt like something you'd read in the 80's."

This book had a very old feel to it. Like something you'd read in the 80's. The story was very predictable and depressing. I couldn't connect with any of the characters.

The narration was okay, but it lacked emotion. Maybe it is just me—I'm picky about narrators—but I'm in the minority with the other reviewers. So, give it a listen and make your own call on it.

This book was gifted to me and the review freely given.

    Story
"Keep a Box of Tissues Handy..."

Three and a half months ago, Jess Bentley held her new husband Frank in her arms as he died, the victim of a robbery gone wrong. Jess descends to depths she's never dreamed of in her depression over the murder. When she discovers she's pregnant, she's desperate to hold on to this last little piece of her husband. Frank's father hears about the pregnancy and threatens to take the baby away, and Jess fears the powerful man will succeed.

After Dan Mulholland discovers his brother was Frank's killer, he shows up at Jess's door and vows to do anything to help her. Dan tells Jess he's going to marry her and adopt the baby, and without any other options Jess is forced to agree. Dan promises a short marriage of convenience only, but he soon finds himself falling for Jess. Can Jess ever love the brother of her husband's killer?

This was an emotionally charged book that had me crying hard through the first few chapters. It immediately had me hooked and feeling for Jess, she's just lost so much. And then it introduced another side, the family of the man who murdered Jess's husband, tugging my heart both ways. It was a roller coaster ride that ran from heart wrenching, to funny, to sweet.

All of the character's feelings, Jess's depression and anger over Frank's death, Dan's determination to control everything in the wake of his brother's deeds, Monica's senseless blame, were all well written and believable. I usually prefer my heroines to have a bit more backbone, and stand up for themselves without needing a man to do everything for them. It's never explained exactly how marrying Dan will prevent Frank's father from taking the baby. But for this book, I just let all that go and enjoyed the story without questioning it too much.

Daniela Acitelli did a great job bringing this story to life, she had a voice that was a pleasure to listen to. She performed speaking voices for the male and female voices well and narrated dramatically. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

"The Story Took Me By Surprise!"

this story took me by surprise! i was expecting it to be just light and fun, which it was but the beginning of the book had me in tears! The way Dan and Jess got together seemed a little far fetched for real life but it is a story and i still loved it. My heart broke for Jess and her loss but also for Bruce and his family! I loved how the growth of Dan and Jess' love without all the sex. there were no sex scenes in the book and normally i would want that but their relationship was actually really great and well written without it! The narrator did a great job on the male voices too so i liked her for this solo narration. However, there were some short pauses in the audio that i wish were edited out...or maybe it was just my copy.

    "Tragedy Turned Tender"

This is a sweet story that begins with tragedy but then transforms into a heartwarming romance. With a gradual build up, readers get to watch the two characters slowly overcome obstacles and fall in love. Such an emotional journey! Good narration added to my enjoyment.

    Story
"Love can really sneak up on you..."

I've been a fan of this book for several years now and, until yesterday, have only had it in print form. I have longed for this series to be released on audio for quite some time. The narrator does a great job bringing the book more to life than what one experiences with the print version.

I love the interplay of all the characters in this story. Dan, our hero, starts out as Mr. Fix-It and soon finds himself falling for Jess, our heroine. His motives are pure and the growth of the various characters throughout the story is enchanting. We meet most of Coach's Boys in this first book. We watch a family go through the turmoil great loss--both on Jess's side and on Dan's. We feel the grief that each side experiences and how they work through their loss.

Yes, this is a love story...but it is really so much more. It is also a beginning--one our characters didn't even know they wanted or needed. It will make you laugh and there are times you'll also need to pull out your tissues because you will weep. This story lays the groundwork for all those to come in the rest of the series. I'm really looking forward to them, as well.

While I love this series in print, I have to say that having it on audio is wonderful. Audio performances bring the stories to life...and also allow me a hands=free experience so I can multitask. They're great to listen to while knitting, crocheting, or quilting. Kudos to the author for bringing them to us!
