Publisher's Summary

The number one New York Times bestselling author

I remember everything about that day, like the images have been burned into my brain by a branding iron. But I wish they would blow away in the wind.

Callie has grown up keeping her feelings locked away from the outside world, and as her painful past threatens to consume her life, most days it's a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence has been the only way to survive, until one night when Callie and Kayden's worlds collide. After that moment, Kayden can't stop thinking about Callie and when they end up at the same college, he does everything in his power to convince her that it isn't coincidence, it's fate.

Lose yourself in the New York Times best-selling sensation that is enchanting listeners everywhere - discover an addictive story filled with unforgettable characters, intense passion, and heart-stopping romance.

Emotional but great book

* Spoilers ahead and trigger warning *

This book was a very emotional journey. The book is based on rape, child abuse & the lasting effects it has on the main characters. I felt so deeply for not only Callie & Kayden but also Luke & Seth. The 4 main characters were all damaged in their own way & I loved how they came together as their own little version of a family. In particular I loved the relationship between Callie & Seth and how well Seth looked after Callie. It was so sweet. He is literally best friend goals!

The only thing that really bothered me about this book was Kayden’s girlfriend. I just felt like there was so much going on already that adding her in wasn’t even really necessary. I understand that Kayden was using her as a buffer & he had no attachment to her at all but I just hated that Kayden stayed with her so long and wouldn’t leave her. It made me wonder if he ever would have left her for Callie if she didn’t leave him first.

Kayden & Callie’s relationship was sweet but delicate. Kayden knew that Callie had issues with physical touch & personal space etc just from observing her actions and he was so accomodating to her needs from the very beginning. It was sweet how patient and gentle he was with her after everything she had been through.

The book ends on a cliff hanger which sets the tone for the next book. This first book is more about Callie over coming her fears where as the next book is more about Kayden over coming his own problems.

The narrator does well narrating both roles however she doesn’t change her voice from characters so sometimes it got a little confusing when the characters where conversing.

Over all this was a beautiful book about over coming horrific past traumas and finding love & acceptance from someone who understands. I highly recommend this book as long as you’re comfortable with the triggers.
