Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Story
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Book 3 - no surprises
Good read, good listen. no surprises in the story, deliciously predictable right to the end. feel good novel for the romantic readers who want to be swept off their feet - by a strong & controlling man, not but a mind-blowingly beautiful writing.

better than the middle one
this third book was more enjoyable than the middle one which seemed quite fake. and as vampire Romance novels go it is a very good version of that but it doesn't hold up to other more creative Romance novels that I have read in past.

Not as good as the first book. Waded through half the book then gave up and stopped reading.
The story ramped up the weird possession and dominance to 100. “I would rather kill you myself than let anyone else have you”. “They instinctively recognised him as the alpha male” “…I obeyed my husbands commands”. Got too gross. Stopped reading. Also the story got really slow and annoyingly politically dramatic.

Superbly enthralling story
What I most enjoyed was the beautiful voicing of the characters. The story progressed in a very captivating pace and kept my interest throughout. It was so lovely to hear a couple of singing sections as well. A beautiful voice and well done to the author and narrator.
