Publisher's Summary

In this stunning sequel to A Thousand Pieces of You by New York Times best-selling author Claudia Gray, Marguerite must race through various dimensions in a desperate attempt to save the boy she loves.

Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross through to alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse - even hurt the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked, and his consciousness is scattered across multiple dimensions.

The hunt for each splinter of Paul's soul sends Marguerite racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris, where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret.

Each dimension brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with every trial she faces, she begins to question the one constant she's found between the worlds: their love for each other.

Hooked me again

Once again this second book in the series starts right in the action. It doesn’t pick up where the first book ends, but rather jumps forward straight into the action and gives you the backstory through the main characters flashbacks in the same way that the first book does. I kind of felt it was unnecessary since I was already hooked and started the second book immediately after finishing the first, but on the other hand I do like the consistency of the style of writing to the first book. This book didn’t disappoint with the storyline once again being filled with action and the chance to see even more different dimensions and versions of the characters.

Inter dimensional travel is a hugely complicated theme, and I did notice a few times in this book where some things didn’t seem to make sense. Or clashed a little with something that we had already been told about it. Eg. At one point Theo says that he can’t remember the thoughts of the other him when he is “asleep” in their body, he can only remember the things they said and did. Then shortly after Paul talks about how the other him was feeling and what he was thinking when he was asleep in his body. There were a couple little things like that, I can’t remember them all, but just things that made me go “hmm, that’s not quite right” a couple times. However, I didn’t feel they were big enough oversights to take away my enjoyment from the book. Overall I did still really enjoy this book, and I finished it very quickly. After the huge cliffhanger ending I will be starting the final book immediately!

Audiobook Note: Once again the narrator has done a phenomenal job. I definitely recommend the audiobook version of this series.

Just as good as the first!

Enjoyable and unique story, balancing interesting concepts with an almost teen-drama/romance story, but without being too soppy.

The story is fine but I hate the protagonist

I loved this series when I was a teenager, reading it again as an young adult brought some new perspective. The protagonist is selfish, self centered and unbearable. She makes stupid assumptions with surface level information and is constantly running away from her problem and problems SHE CREATED.

Some spoilers ahead here, when Paul shot Theo, why is SHE the one that needs to run and hide in a luxurious life of a literal princess when Theo is the one that got shot?? Sure it's heartbreaking to find out the guy you love is also a remourseless murderer, but there to abandon the friend that tried to protect you (twice mind you) but got his leg blasted instead only to feel sorry for yourself? No. Just no. Not to mention knowing that while occupying the body of her other self, the other self retains memory of her controlling their body, assuming that whatever she has decided is also what they want? Ugh. It's honestly infuriating to listen to the last 4 hours of this book. Like uwu something terrible happened to ME even though it was my friend that got shot in front of my face, instead of comforting him I'm gonna run away to live a princess life and pretend to forget that Paul's soul is at stake and Theo's cure. Oh and I got this me PREGNANT BECAUSE I MADE THE DECISION TO HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX BUT THATS OKAY CUS I JUST KNOW ITS WHAT THIS ME WOULD WANT TO. I HATE HER.
