Critic Reviews

"Gaiman's silver-tongued narration vividly brings this production to life. Like the bards of old, Gaiman is equally proficient at telling tales as he is at writing them, and his pleasant British accent feels like a perfect match to the material." (Publishers Weekly)

"A fairy tale for everyone from 'one of the best fabulists of our age." (Financial Times)

"Beyond all the borders that divide us, there is a place of infinite possibilities and pure magic. I think of Neil Gaiman as a writer who wears the key to that land around his neck - the key to Storyland." (Elif Shafak)

Neil's voice is like silk

what a beautifully written story, far superior to the movie and listening to Neil Gaiman speak is an utter delight!

Great audiobook

The movie brought me to purchase the Audiobook and I’m glad I did as Neil’s narration makes the book. There are some differences between the book and the movie though, and I must admit, that I prefer the movie version of the story.

brilliant

I think this is my third time reading this book, but my first time listening to it via audio.
everytime I read it I like it more.

this time something that really stood out to me was Tristans development he goes from almost obsessively wanting ownership of the star to recognizing Yeven as her own person.
this is some 2019 equality right here and I am all about it.

Enchanting

This was such an easy listen! I love Neil Gaiman and his narration is perfect for star dust, as it was for coraline.

A light fairytale for adults, plenty of fun and mystery.

Fantastic, Fractured Fairytale

I'm not sure how he does it, but Neil Gaiman has the gift of telling a story in a straightforward commonsensical manner, without reducing any of its magic or sense of adventure. Sometimes when you read it becomes a chore that you have to labour through in order to get to the end to find out what happens. That never happens with Neil's writing. The journey is as much fun as the destination. This is a rollicking, romantic romp, full of whimsical settings and fantastical characters, including a cabal of evil witches who make Snow White's step-mother look like a kindly old tea lady in comparison. This novel reminded me that sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and chase that shooting star.

Gorgeous story, a fairy tale for adults

This is a wonderful story, obviously it’s not exactly the same as the movie but they are both lovely & worth listening/watching.

Magical

One of the most beautiful books to read (listen to). The movie is also a wonderful adaptation of the book.

The Best Kind of Fairytale

I was a major fan of the movie when it was released, and for years I didn't realise that it was actually based on a book. I recently rewatched the movie and thought "you know what, I'm gonna give the book a go." I chose to listen to the audiobook because I had heard that Neil Gaiman was an amazing narrator, and he really was fantastic. The story as a whole is an amazing adventure filled with romance, action, magic, and so much more. I loved the characters and the world that it was set in, and listening to the author read the book just made me dive head first into it, never wanting to climb back out.

It's truly the best kind of fairytale, suitable for a wide range of age groups (older children all the way to adulthood).

Favourite

First time hearing this book on audible, but not first time reading. I've read the paper version and watched the movie several times. Still love it. Every version. Neil Gaiman does a very good job reading for this audible version.
