Publisher's Summary

The author of The Far Pavilions returns us once again to the vast, intoxicating romance of India under the British Raj. Shadow of the Moon is the story of Winter de Ballesteros, a beautiful English heiress come home to her beloved India. It is also the tale of Captain Alex Randall, her protector, who aches to possess her. Forged in the fires of a war that threatens to topple an empire, their tale is the saga of a desperate and unforgettable love that consumes all in its thrall. Filled with the mystery of moonlit palace gardens and the whisperings of passion and intrigue, M. M. Kaye evokes an era at once of its time, yet timeless.

Appalling narrating

I don’t quite understand why a book that’s totally English would be narrated by an American. One of my favourite books that has been completely wrecked audible-wise with an American accent with mis-pronunciation of most Indian words and places, not to mention many words in the actual English (as opposed to American) language.
I could get no further than a quarter of the way through and have given it up. It shall be a return sadly. I’m now waiting until it may hopefully one day be narrated by someone of English extraction who will narrate it as it should be narrated. Apologies to the present narrator but I’m sorry, it’s pretty bad.

Exceptional

Brilliant narration of a beloved old book by M.M Kaye. Lesser known than the Far Pavilions but an enthralling read.

A fantastic read

Loved loved this book. M M Kaye wrote a story you couldn’t put Dow/stop listening to. Having lived in the areas she mentioned I can vouch for her incredible descriptions of the land and the people who occupied it. Can’t recommend this book highly enough. The narrator was also perfect This would also apply to her other book ‘The Far Pavilions’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
