The third book in the beloved number-one best-selling author's sexy, romantic suspense Slow Burn series...
They say young love doesn't last, but a girl from the wrong side of the tracks with unique abilities and the hometown golden boy were determined to defy the odds. For Zack Covington, Anna-Grace - his "Gracie" - was the one. Until one night forever alters the course of their future, when a devastated Gracie disappears without a trace, leaving Zack to agonize over what happened to the girl he loved. As the years pass, his desperate efforts to find her uncover nothing.
Now working for Devereaux Security, he stumbles across a painting featuring a special place only he and Gracie would know. The image is too perfectly rendered for it to be coincidence. His Gracie must be alive. When he finally tracks her down, he is shocked - and heartbroken - to discover the wounded shell of the girl he once knew and still loves. Her psychic gifts are gone, and worse, she believes he betrayed her all those years ago.
Zack has enemies, and once his weakness is discovered, Gracie becomes a target for revenge. He'll have to save her before he can earn her trust and her love. And he vows they'll never be torn apart again.
Seriously- 2/3rds of the way thru this book and nothing but whine, angst, whine and more angst. Bored out of my mind. Gracie needs to have an adult, articulate conversation and Zachary needs to get a really strong grip. Ugh...

I have NEVER disliked on of Maya's book before but this one I just didn't like. The woman lead was annoying and her thought processes made zero sense. I get that she is damaged from her past but it was unrealistic. Also the hammering on and on about Zack's feelings about their relationship... WE GET IT!!! He didn't like the girl!
This book just was a let down to the 2 previous in the series. There were threads that the story could have picked up that were left untouched making a very two dimensional and predictable plot. Very dissatisfying.
In addition, I am not a fan of the narrator. He has passion in his inflections that help but for some reason he just sounded like Charlie Sheen reading a book. It was distracting. Worse with the drool story writing.
Sorry to be so negative but I am very disappointed.

Do authors think we r stupid or do they lack the intelligence of filling all the pages with original thought. It was difficult to listen to the characters say the same thing over and over through out the book. The only information necessary to repeat is info from previous books
Otherwise it was a good story line with twists and turns

The Segway between the books confused me. I don't remember Zach off hand in the previous books. I should have listened to book 1amd 2 before taking on 3.

I found myself waiting for more but it never came. I kind of felt something was missing ( a little like I was left hanging)

This was supposed to be a romance there was no romance in this book. It was two people thinking to themselves throughout the book. There was some good Mistry and dramag. But it is not what I expected from a Maya Banks. There was one love scene in the whole book which was the last 10 minutes. Needless to say I was very disappointed with this book compared to all her other ones. I won't listen to it again so I think I will return it.

What did you love best about Safe at Last?
OMG, I was at least surprised by this book. It was NOT a cookie cutter Maya Banks book. Seriously, every one should take this review seriously because this is the FIRST time I have actually taken the time to write a review. AND it was only after finishing the book, laughing for a good 30 minutes and then going to check the other reviews that I am taking my time to do this instead of moving on to the next in the series (Ya'll saying you wanted to return the book, it was that bad, hit my fairness bone). I have listened to over 600 audio books, have about 650 in my library and have way over 10,000 ebooks on one device alone and am blunt so I usually don't write reviews because usually I want to blast other reviewers instead, but I am going to try to be good so this review gets posted and my time will not have been wasted, yeah?
What did you like best about this story?
Other than its not a normal meet and within hours or days fall in love have sex, some drama or trauma (more than likely both) for the couple to over come, more sex, a heroic rescue, fireworks sex, and then everything wrapped in a tidy bow? Yeah, it was real. A lot of people said the female was whiney and the guy was whatever, but think about it. She had and alcoholic mother and abusive uncle and then at 16 she was homeless. One person, one, helped her, was her whole world. He was the only person she trusted and due to her gift it wasn't a matter of her believing her gang raper's words that shattered her world. So they finally meet. How many times in your life have you said something that didn't come out right, was taken out of context, or by the tone of your voice was taken the wrong way, then add in people who don't know the full story, actually no one knew the full correct story until almost the end. The heroine of the story wasn't whiney she was damaged and traumatized but when she had started to heal, had time and space to think things through did she become strong and protective.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was when Gracie went to Wade to get help to get the girls together to save Eliza...#Valkyries. She had thought through what it would take and what it would take was girl power. But even it had twists and turns I hadn't seen coming...
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it actually was. I had listened to a few KGI favorites to lead in to a few new ones I have sitting but have me waffling on when I want to read, UGH (D@mn Hancock! LOL). So I was looking at other MB novels and I saw I had these sitting around. MB is an auto buy for me so I don't always get to them right away I read the descriptions and started I think book 2 the night before last and did that one in one sitting ,which I believed to be book 1. Then I listened to book 1 and did that one in one sitting. Unfortunately, I just couldn't go for a trifecta. But as soon as I finish this review I'm on to book 4. Eliza and Wade's story and if it's going to be as action packed, a little scary, and humorous as I anticipate it's going to be I'll have a hard time putting it down.
Any additional comments?
After listening to so many audio books I've had the best of narrators and believe me the worst. I've read reviews that have astounded me and made me so angry I've had to put down all electronic equipment so I wouldn't have to replace them.
The very first audio book I listened to had an OM-amazinG narrator. The second, the worst; so bad I went and bought the ebook version to read, LOL. I eventually went back and listened to the audio version and it wasn't that bad, I have actually listened and bought more of that second narrator again.
I realized that my first experience was not the norm. As far as the reviewers go, they still astound me...blah blah blah this book has so much sex in it, it's a romance book, or almost erotica romance - what do you expect?
I will tell you this, my mother (very conservative and vocal about my choice of reading material) is often astounded, as are others, how I know so much about abuse victims, frog in the pot syndrome, etc. They are always, always shocked when I tell them reading. Authors always or almost always write from a place of knowledge or research.
Romance novels or Romance-erotica novels aren't just sex (even though over a period of 8, 14, or even 21 hrs it may seem like it is) they contain much more, so next time look for the more.
Very redundant. At least 70% should be cut out. Story went on and on so I skipped a lot of it. Think I will return it. I have purchased close to 100 audiobooks and this will be the first I have returned.
this book was one of mayas best,,the heart and soul of these two people had me crying thru out the story, Zack I think is now one of my favorites, what a man, ladies dont miss this one .........
This is the last book in a series of 3 books.
each book has a great story and I look forward to a book no :4.
