Publisher's Summary

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem.

As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton - and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers - and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Can she vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry?

Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.

This Heirloom Edition of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies includes a new preface by the author, an afterword by Dr. Allen Grove, professor of English literature at Alfred University, and new scenes of gratuitous zombie mayhem.

Critic Reviews

"[Seth Grahame-Smith] has taken the merry world established by a 19th-century literary lady, added a scourge of reanimated corpses, and created...well, a pop cultural phenomenon, certainly, and one that has stirred up a lot of excitement. But the greater achievement of the book may lie in the satisfying desire it awakens to read the remix and the original side by side." ( Entertainment Weekly)

Tedious rubbish

Tedious rubbish that Audible's annoying system forces me to say in at least fifteen words

Liked the original better

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes and no ,I had read the original virgin of this and in my opinion it was better.

What other book might you compare Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to, and why?

There is nothing I can compare this to, its really is in a genre of it's own

What three words best describe Katherine Kellgren’s voice?

British,droning,Victorian .

Could you see Pride and Prejudice and Zombies being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Yes most defiantly , I'm amazed it has not ,Emma Thomson better be there otherwise it would be a waste.

Any additional comments?

I think Jane Austin would have loved this ,she had a very wicked scene of humor and this certainty has that in spades.Having Janeite's and zombie lovers all coming together can only enhance world peace.

Strong beginning ... disappointing middle ... argh

When I started this, I was at first impressed with how Seth Grahame-Smith was able to seamlessly and amusingly maintain the essence of Pride and Prejudice within a world of zombies. It was going so well ... until about a third of the way in when I felt the story just gave up on being seamless and just became a mess.

Main characters became unrecognisable, and in most cases just no longer likable - in particular the character of Elizabeth. Also, there were some glaring inconsistencies in logic (and I'm not talking about zombies). By two-thirds of the way in, I just wanted it to be over. It's a pity, really, because I'm still really impressed with the first third of the book. There were certainly some laugh-out-loud moments throughout but unfortunately, the last half was simply boring.

All that said, the narration was brilliant - even scared my dog a few times!

A Kind of Sloppy Retelling

movie was much better, though the concept intrigued me, i felt little satisfaction in this retelling. The zombie plague gave such strange alterations to the regency period that it almost seemed to be a 15 year old boys retelling. The Japanese/Chinese training is painfully racist and completely unnecessary - they could have really gone into depth with regency weaponry but no, they had to make this already stupid retelling even more so.

Great read

Although I've never read Jane Austen's original work, I now have a feel for it after reading this.

More funny than you'd think

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

I think the fight scene after Darcy's failed proposal is hilarious, I didn't see that one coming.

Any additional comments?

This is such a goofy and cheesy take on Pride and Prejudice, and I thought it would be terrible, but I actually found myself laughing and it was much better than I expected.
