Publisher's Summary

Grad student and cocktail waitress Evelyn Merkholtz has plenty to deal with. Too much to deal with, actually. So when her runaway best friend calls with a mysterious and urgent request to join her in Scotland, she is secretly more than happy to drop everything and oblige. When she gets there, Evelyn discovers that she is faced with an ancient curse, an adorably hunky villager, and a super hot (but possibly murderous) Highland warrior from the 18th century - and realizes that getting burned at the stake is a really bad way to get out of writing her thesis.

Misleading and disappointment

The book's cover and title makes you think that this is a historical romance. The blurb also mention the sexy highlander. Well the sexy highlander is a character that is barely mentioned. This is NOT a historical romance. If you think this is even close to Outlander you'll be sadly disappointed. The time travel theme is poorly mentioned. And this is basically a contemporary mystery. I listened about 60% of the story (about 5 hours) and our hero and heroine had 0 chemistry. Not one kiss, barely any flirting or inclination that a romance will develop. This is just a mistery about how an 18th century highlander ended in in Piper's home (heroine's BFF). I kept listening to see if it would get better but no, every minute I Was more and more disappointed. It was a waste of time and money.

Nope..

Any additional comments?

One reviewer said "TOO QUICK PROGRESSION TO SEX." I'm at 55% and there has not even been a kiss, no thoughts of sex, no desire, no wanting from either of them, no sexual tension. If there's sex in this book it's gotta be near the end and that makes it's gratuitous sex and that's the worse kind there is, no sex, no nothing then WHAM there it is.. AND the reviewer said "Maybe both of those questions will be answered in the follow up." Umm, NO.
I should have paid attention. This is a cliffhanger and I absolutely hate when an author tries to force me to read book after book to finally get to a solution. I'm glad I found out before I read the whole book. I'm done. Sorry..
I gave it 3 stars because I'm not finishing it.

As to the narrator: Ms. Dawe just keeps getting better and better. For as much as I listened to she did a great job.

Narration way to fast

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No, probably not. Story is good perhaps a bit adolescent -but the narration is terrible - had to slow it down just to follow the story

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Talked to fast and talked in a whine

Worst narration I ever encountered

I’ve listened to hundreds of books, with some fantastic narration and some not so great. But never have I gotten one as rotten as this one. Maybe someone should help the narrator grasp the basics of respecting the text’s punctuation and telling her that breathing is allowed while reading it. Returning the book.

hmm ehhh

I felt that the story mimicked another book I've read and narrator was terrible. I almost stopped listening because of the narrator.

A different take on time travel

This is a fun book which begins with the inheritance of a castle in Scotland. The girl that inherits the castle also inherits a time traveling prisoner and calls her best friend to come to Scotland to help her deal with the situation. Their adventures include trips to the past and some love interests and conclude with a happy ending.

Lost Highlander... Kinda blah..but readable.

I have the audio version of this book and the narrator is Angela Dawe it took me a while to comfortable with her reading style as she reads the narrative parts it basically monotone no inflections in her voice but when she reads as what a character is saying she reads well and her voices are all quite good. Some very good one woman's voice in this book was a tad annoying but I suppose it went with her description of being a petit woman.
The story line was ok...the beginning hooked me because no one would come out with what the big issue was! What the problem was that Evelyn had to drop her job and graduate school at a moments notice when her BFF from childhood calls and says must come help her. If for nothing else I wanted to know what the problem was... A little bit of a let down after that was reveled and it took a little effort on my part to keep moving along. I wound up reading (listening) to it pretty much straight through. It was ok but I didn't fall in love with anyone o was rooting for anyone to overcome all odds and be able to be together. I was fine either way and that is not a good thing when reading a romance. You want love the love to live the couple! Cheer them on... But alas I was like just get on with it. Nora ING heart no tears no elation no let down.. It was what it was.
With all that said I o er all enjoyed the book but looking back I think I kept reading hoping for more. I didn't get what o wanted but I got enough over all.

Had to have more

I enjoyed this book so much that I immediately grabbed the remainder of the series that was in audio format. Devoured those too...can't review since they came from the source.

You'll want more of this time travel adventure. What's not to like, hunky highlanders in the past and present, a witch, a war & a baby.

Seriously?

What would have made Lost Highlander: Lost Highlander, Book 1 better?

Better characters, better plots. There was not enough depth of the characters or plot. It really was lacking in certain areas.

Would you ever listen to anything by Cassidy Cayman again?

I thought her voice was annoying in places. It would depend on the books she was reading. Accents were not her strong suit.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

When he did a squeal at the beginning of the book, it thought I can't listen to that. Now I wish I did not. I normally like highlander romances, but not this one. . Also, I think she did a poor job with the Scottish accent. This is not books she needs to be reading. Other books would be better suited for this narrator.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was really disappointed. I could not believe some of the plot lines. Two of the main characters were lovemaking after murdering someone and were literally covered in blood. Really? Not even animals would not even do that. I could see them getting frisky in the shower, but to be covered with blood and making out outdoors in the freezing cold.

Any additional comments?

I really thought this book was a waste of time and brain cells. If you want better-written highlander books, check out the books by Susan Tizdale. The first book did not leave me a bit curious about the next book.
