Publisher's Summary

Read by Martin Freeman, in Life, the Universe and Everything, the third title in Douglas Adams' blockbusting scifi comedy series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Arthur Dent finds himself enlisted to prevent a galactic war.

In consequence of a number of stunning catastrophes, Arthur Dent is surprised to find himself living in a hideously miserable prehistoric Earth. However, just as he thinks that things cannot possibly get any worse, they suddenly do. He discovers that the galaxy is not only mind bogglingly big and bewildering, but also that most of the things that happen in it are staggeringly unfair.

Escaping the end of the world for a second time, Arthur, Ford, and their old friend Slartibartfast embark (reluctantly) on a mission to save the whole galaxy from fanatical robots. Not bad for a man in his dressing gown . . .

Follow Arthur Dent's galactic (mis)adventures in the rest of the trilogy with five parts: So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, and Mostly Harmless.

My only gripe is that this books is remarkably and unreasonably good, which one might be inclined to think is a good thing. It is not, I will never again be able to listen to or read any book I have previously enjoyed knowing I could just listen to this again. Rather it would seem, this is a truly ethical and existential dilemma.

The Brilliance Continues

The only problem with this book, as with the others in the series and as I have explained at great lengths to anyone who will listen (i.e. nobody) is that it is altogether too short.
Martin Freeman does a superb job as narrator and the writing is just as funny, eccentric and surprising as the previous books in the series. I very much look forward to the next one.

all time favourite sci-fi series, very fun audio

Entertaining! Funny! Laugh Out Loud funny :)

Satirical and very 'self-aware' writing.

I love this series and listening to the audiobook is so fun.
