Story
"unconventional"
Would you listen to His Pretend Baby again? Why?

Yes, because it had two unconventional main characters, perfect for a reader like me.

What about Clementine Dove’s performance did you like?

She did good!

Any additional comments?

The blurb and cover are right, this story isn't conventional at all. It doesn't end in a traditional HEA. Nothing was traditional about the story, and since that's the kind of reader I am, I was here for it. A punk rock/metal head/alternative black beauty. A latinx hero with a neuroatypical disability(asperger's), this is like, the first billionaire book I've actually enjoyed.

This is my first Theodora Taylor book, I hope there's more like this =) More audiobooks please!

Story
"So much more than I expected!!!"

I was so wonderfully surprised by this book. The story is full of suspense, romance, and some humor. I have read some books by this author and am amazed with how much character development she can write in a book. The characters she writes about have flaws and issues. The story moves along quite fast and is very good. I thought the narrator did an excellent performance with the various characters and accents. This book is original and a standalone listen. I loved the ending with the unexpected twists! My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I will definitely listen to more books by the author and narrator. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job with some of the characters (my favorite was the husband with the Russian accent). I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

"The Plan! Wow What A Surprise!"

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Nyla, past foster child, rejected, tough, honest, understanding and expecting to be thrown away. She dates a cop, Marco, and is invited to his family's traditional Thanksgiving. Marco's family is very traditional but he has a billionaire brother, Go, who has Aspergers and is very blunt and seeming detached. Nyla has a psychology degree and understands not fitting in and has some understanding of how Go's mind works. Marco breaks up with Nyla and begins to date a foster sister of Nyla's. Nearly a year later Marco and Nyla run into each other at a party, get drunk, have sex and she lands up pregnant.
Nyla tells Marco of the pregnancy and before anything more occurs Marco is killed by drunk driver. At Marco's funeral Go says they should marry and he can act as if the baby is his.
There is much more that takes place regarding Nyla's foster sister and the unusual way Go and Nyla interact and yet fit....
I was surprised that the story was more serious then I think the title inferred.
I found the relationship between Go and Nyla was so interesting and how Nyla acted with Go.
I loved this story and was surprised...I didn't expect it.
The narrator was fantastic and I will look for more done by her..great voice female and male...perfect timing and pacing and emotion!
Well worth a credit or purchase....interesting twist to the story.

"Enlightening story!"

Theordora Taylor wrote an incredible story with this book. Taking too flawed characters and putting them together does not always work, especially as flawed as Go Gutierrez. Go has Asperger's syndrome and he needs his life to work in a scheduled way. If things are out of place, the plan is altered or it just isn't as expected, this billionaire has major issues. In walks Nyla on Thanksgiving with his brother Marco. Life is about to change. As we all know, life can turn on a dime and in this case, the Gutierrez family suffers tragedy. Is Nyla the key to helping them get through the pain? I was incredibly taken with Go and his thought process. He is cool at times, he is warm and loving, he is compassionate, then harsh. Nyla is able to understand and love this man through the worst of times. Theodora Taylor gave us an inside look on this disorder, as well as some other family issues that are dealt with giving the story interesting characters and enlightening personality

Clementine Dove is a wonderful narrator. She has a warm voice and good pace while reading with discernible characters. An enjoyable listen.

"Great story & Loved Go!"
What made the experience of listening to His Pretend Baby the most enjoyable?

I absolutely Adored and loved Go. He was complicated and broody and hard to like but in the end it just made me like him more. The narration was great too.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the play out of the story, it drew me in. I also loved the personalities of the characters and the back and forth between them.

What about Clementine Dove’s performance did you like?

Clementine Dove did an absolutely fantastic job at bringing these characters to life. She preformed them in a way that made me feel like I knew them better, than if I just read about them.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes! The last few chapters had me white knuckling my chair, and my heart sank until it didn't anymore. Way to make a listener wrong their hands in dreaded anticipation.

Any additional comments?

I actually enjoyed this book way more than I anticipated. I really wish it was longer because the characters are so likesble I can read multiple books about them and be happy. There wet a few spots that I feel could have been developed plot wise that would add length to the story and make it feel a bit more solid in some parts. But truthfully I loved it as is too. Would definitely recommend. I was provided this audiobook for free through audiobook boom for my unbiased review.

Story
"Disapoointed by the audio book"

I've read a few books by this author, and decided I'd try the audio version because the samples sounded really good. This particular book, I've re read twice already, so I was excited to hear what the narration would be like, hoping it would bring out the story and characters to life.

Now, I know what you might think - that since I've read it before, I already had an idea in mind so if the narration didn't live up to my ideal, then I wouldn't like it. But see that's not why I didn't enjoy the narration. I've noticed that Clementine is a good narrator BUT when it comes down to male voices, she just doesn't quite measure up. In this particular story, Go aka the H is more than likely in the spectrum, so no, I don't expect his voice to be all full of emotion or anything, but the book does describe him as gritting out words yet that doesn't come across in the narration. In fact, his voice sounds the same as the non dialogue parts of the book. Nyla's voice - the h - does sound a little higher in pitch but that's it. Very little emotion comes through in the character's voices during dialogue. It's a shame really.

Honestly ? I'd recommend the book but not the audio book.
