Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Faking Friends by Jane Fallon, read by Sally Scott and Kristin Atherton.

Best friend. Soulmate. Confidante. Backstabber.

Amy thought she knew who Melissa was - then again, Amy also thought she was on the verge of the wedding of her dreams to her long-distance fiancé. When her career begins to unravel, she pays a surprise trip home to London. Her boyfriend Jack is out, but another woman has been making herself at home.... And that Other Woman is Melissa.

Amy has lost her job, her fiancé and her home in one disastrous weekend - but instead of falling apart, she's determined to get her own back. Piecing her life back together won't be half as fun as dismantling theirs, after all.

A little see through

Not a story I was completely comfortable with given the revenge factor. Fairly easy to spot the final outcome. Good narration.

Love

Loved this book! The story was great and I enjoyed the twist. The narration was also great and not at all annoying or too over the top.

Sounds familiar

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Sure if friend just wants light girly read

Would you be willing to try another book from Jane Fallon? Why or why not?

Yes I did after this and I am rather intrigued at how Fallon tells the same story over and over again. Duplicitous boyfriend / husband and dodgy bf who go behind main characters back. main character knows but holds fire and enlists heart of gold wacky mate to help plot and scheme and play the long game to get revenge. Seriously it is this very basic plot over and over.

Predictable but totally addictive.

This book is beautifully read by the narrators. the story line has a few twist and turns, but overall the story was predictable. Despite that, I really enjoyed this book and my first from Jane Fallon. i would recommend it as an easy listener.

Schadenfreude to the max

This was a good book and though it’s in the chick-lit genre it’s not at all cheesy (not that it has to be, but it’s typically a main ingredient for chick-lit). The story delves into a deep-rooted, toxic, best friendship between childhood friends and the elements that hold it together and tear it apart. It explores the meaning and recognition of genuine friendships and how “schadenfreude” is not and should never be in the mix. Overall, the story is solid, character development is great, and the ending is truly satisfying.

Smart and Fun

Finally! After a long spell for me - this book strikes the perfect balance. A light, fun, smart book that I wanted to finish in one sitting.

Well developed characters, none are too sappy, or just really well developed. Even the antagonist, while nasty, is just neurotic enough so that you understand her motivation... She's not all just gratuitous evil.

A story of love, friendship, career struggles, tasty revenge and a realistic ending, this book is well worth the credit.

Enjoy!

Loved it!

Great story, with a surprise I definitely didn’t see coming. Story was well written and flowed nicely. I listened to the whole thing in only 2 sessions. I felt I literally couldn’t stop. In fact I stayed up until 2 am for the first session of listening. The emotions were real and I felt myself cringing or laughing or talking back. I would recommend this book highly.

Fantastic listen!

My first time reading/listening to a Jane Fallon novel and I can’t wait to choose another of her’s next! I couldn’t stop listening- was hooked from the very beginning. Narrators are fantastic and the characters were wonderfully developed. Haven’t loved (and hated- the antagonist that is) characters this strongly in a long time. Would have loved to continue to follow their lives long after the story wrapped up.

Kept my interest but overall characters lacking

The premise of the book sounded intriguing. Who doesn't dream of getting a bit of revenge. But with the first incident (causing her ex to miss out on a new job) the heroine crossed the line. She kept on saying that she was taking the high road, but rarely did. Particularly distasteful was the fact that she innocently caused someone harm, effusively apologized not once but twice, basically saying the other person was an ass. The ending salvo was not necessary but it did slap the reader in the face that the heroine talked the talk but didn't walk the walk.

In addition the story itself was confusing as heck. You would be in modern day London and then the next chapter you would be in the past 20 years earlier. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or rhythm.

Plus honestly how could anyone consider 20 years of abuse as friendship.

I did like the narrator though, and would listen to other books read by her.

Didn't want it to end

I loved this book, read quite a few of Jane Fallons books and this is her best so far. If you like a good bitchfest revenge story then this is for you.

This is a cracking listen. I enjoyed every minute. lots of twists. Only downside was I didn't believe the character was nearly forty. they all seemed to be in their late 20s.

Truly awful

With the exception of the latest Helen Fields book, I’ve downloaded some really duds lately.

This one is boring, patronising & fluffy (not in a happy feel good way).

Don’t waste your time. Got to the fourth chapter & couldn’t stand anymore.

Thank goodness for audible allowing you to return books you don’t like!

Easy listening but...

The concept of the storyline is great but I found some of the relationships unrealistic. There didn’t seem to be any conceivable bond between the main character and her best friend which lessened the impact of the crux of the story.

Nonetheless it was entertaining and easy to listen to.
