An experience with Audible - Black Rock White City
This was my first experience with an audible book and it was terrific.
The story drags you in and you soon find yourself relating to the characters - Jovan and Suzannah.
In between mundane jobs and disengaged personal lives, runs the damage of the graffitist. Slowly we also get to understand the horror of Yugoslavia and how they come to be disenfranchised and downcast in Melbourne. We begin to feel for these poor people who have had to contend with so much in their lives, and, the psychological damage hasn't stopped just by being located in another country. The nastiness and casual traumas continue on until a pregnancy and near death experience bring them back to a place where maybe there can be some hope for the future.

Audio version not great
This is one of those times that I wish I had actually read the book instead of listening to the audio version. The entire novel was narrated in the same over-acted, midday soap opera,deep, voice. I found myself listening to the words and trying to imagine relevant paragraphs in a lighter tone. Not particularly enjoyable. There were also quite a few skips and irregular time intervals between paragraphs making the storyline difficult to follow at times.
