Publisher's Summary

Human Lauren has a protective streak a mile wide and one immediate goal in life - get her best friend out of an abusive household. If that involves a little bat-based redecorating, so be it. Unfortunately - or fortunately - a certain sexy-as-hell cop breaks up the fight before she has a chance to really get going.

Grayslake police officer Van Abrams is too hot for his own good, and his handcuffs make all those wonderful places tingle. Too bad he, you know, arrested her and stuff. But then he becomes overbearing and commanding. Suddenly Lauren finds herself in his arms, in his bed, and mated to his werebear butt. What's up with that?

Werebear Enforcer Van Abrams doesn't want anything to do with humans. He's got reasons, and they're damn good ones. He doesn't need to explain himself to anyone, especially the curvaceous, gorgeous human Lauren. Then, his bear decides Lauren is his mate and Van's anti-human feelings abandon him. He still hasn't figured out if that's a good thing. Of course, when danger rolls in from Boyne Falls and joins with a powerful prick from Grayslake, Van realizes that, human or not, Lauren is his. Van hopes he can kill their enemies and still make it home for dinner.

Feels stronger in audible.

AUDIBLE REVIEW 23
Really comes across strongly and annoys me with how Lauren is treated in the beginning and how a wife beating politician gets away with abuse.
Lauren is injured and is given no medical assistance whilst in jail.
I understand what Van is saying in that it cannot be proven, her word against his thing. But it sucks big time.

BOOK REVIEW
A great second book in this series.
Our hero and heroine are Van and Lauren.
Lauren comes into this book with a bang, literally. She is defending/protecting her friend who is being abused by her husband once again, using a baseball bat to great effect against the wife beating husband.
Lauren has a very rude introduction to shifters in the form of Parker the cub.
Van is the deputy sheriff and enforcer for the clan and has to do the hard jobs to protect everyone. He is also one of the Itan’s brothers.
He also has a very valid reason from his childhood to hate humans, which makes it interesting when he turns up at a disturbance and has to arrest Lauren.
His bear gives him grief from the moment he lays eyes on her.
Much fun follows in Celia’s typical great style as both of them are tough nuts and need to learn to rely and trust each other as well as fall in love.
In book two we have a continuation of the background story started in book one.
Running in the background is the political shenanigans of the bear clan and wolf pack who are trying to form a treaty. The baddies keep turning up, but there was also some justice dished out.
I read this series a while ago but the author recently asked for reviews to be published and as I love Celia Kyle’s work it was no hardship to reread this series. Glad Celia asked me, I had forgotten how good they are.
This is my honest review of this book though I had previously purchased it.
