Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Publisher's Summary
An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since its first publication, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable guide to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. It showcases a menagerie of magical creatures, explained enchantingly by noted magizoologist, Newt Scamander, who you may remember from the film series of the same name.
And, who better to narrate this compendium of beasts than Eddie Redmayne, Oscar-winning star of the Fantastic Beasts films. The audiobook uses thrilling soundscapes to bring the beasts off the page.
The shelves of the Hogwarts Library are also home to many more fascinating books. If you have enjoyed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them you might want to check out some of its other treasures: Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Hardcore Nerds, Ahoy!
Listen up nerds, if you're umming and ahhimg about whether $15 is reasonable to pay for something less than 2 hrs long on here, let me put your minds at rest. It is absolutely worth it.
This new edition includes more information, incorperating the wider world of the new film franchise, and is absolutely beautifully narrated by Eddie Redmayne, who let's the character of Newt postively shine through his reading. The book is fun and enjoyable, though should really be reserved for hard core nerds. This is not a story, it is for all intents and purposes, a textbook - and an encylopedia at that.
If hearing an -albiet engaging and interesting - formal introduction and history lesson followed by the alphabetical listings and descriptors of 50+ magical creatures isn't your cup of tea, this isn't the book for you.
However, if you're a Harry Potter nerd who simply Can't Get Enough, it's perfect. The entries are funny and throughly enjoyable, and the backing soundtrack of the various habitats sets the scene beautifully.
An all round A plus job!

Hardcore fans will enjoy
Newt Scamander reads the A-Z descriptions of 81 magical beasts.
The most entertaining part of this audiobook was the location ambient backing tracks and actual sounds of the beast that accompany each beast description.
I felt as though those sounds alongside Eddie's reading really draw you into the experiencing the magical world just that tiny bit more than just reading the book on its own.
It gets an Outstanding from me.

Entertaining and overall pleasing
A bit too short, might be missing some creatures I think. But it is thoroughly entertaining. I was disconcerted by the change in style with the notes using a crackling audio but got used to it during the book. Audio effects to set the scene were nice and helped gave varying character to the book. Eddie Redmaynes did a great job with the voice acting.

For some reason I thought that this was an actual story. Guess I should have read the description a little bit more completely. It's probably fun to sit with your kids and look through the different creatures, but doesn't make for a very interesting audible experience

There isn't much story here... but that narrator!
I honestly have never wanted to read this book nor purchase any version. I do have the screenplay because I mean the cover is beautiful! But besides that, it does not call my attention fully.
However, I saw that Audible published this title a few months ago and I heard the preview... and oh my god! This is just one of the best narrations and productions I have heard in my life. There is nothing better than read, but when you listen a book that is full of special effects and sounds of dragons, pixies, fairies, merpeople, and other fantastic beasts that you can come up with... it is just another story and another world!

A Textbook Plucked from Harry Potter's Backpack
This was a good addition to the world of Harry Potter. Big fans of the book series will probably enjoy this book, but it's not really a story... If we were to pluck a textbook of magical creatures from Harry Potter's backpack, it would be this book.
This book reads just like a modern textbook, except this one is about magical creatures. Listed in alphabetical order, the book describes all of the magical creatures we read about in the Harry Potter books, as well as many we never really heard about.
The audio performance was very good, but I had some issues with the recording in some places...
Some of the creatures had "notes" that in a textbook would be something in the margin or at the bottom of the page. Though well performed, these "notes" were all of a different audio quality (almost muffled) than the rest of the narration. It as like the narrator went back and recorded the "note" sections while holding their hand over the microphone...
This was overall a very good listen. As a huge Harry Potter fan, this was a great addition to one of my favorite book series. 5 Stars!

Fantabulous Beasts For The Hardcore Fan!
Make no mistake--there is no story here; rather it's Newt Scamander's textbook. But it's chock full off wondrous beasts that are sure to delight fans. You'll find the familiar; you'll find the new and awesome. And you'll even find a bit of the wizarding world outside of Harry Potter's Great Britain. Beasts from Africa, Asia, even America (where there's a bit of history with the wizarding's American President).
Eddie Redymayne does a fantastic job reading what is essentially Harry's school work (reminds me of people saying someone's voice is so good they could read the phonebook). He puts awe and spellbinding wonder into each beast and its history.
This book made me do something I haven't done since I was a kid: stop and make up stories myself about each creature.
It was a nice ride, a journey into a ticklesome safari.

Wonderfully read, great information
This book is very pleasing despite my hesitation to order it. Easy short listen and will enhance your beastly knowledge.

There is no story just a list of creatures
Probably my fault for not listening to the sample I thought it was the story of the new feature film it is not it's just a simple list of beasts nothing more. Unless you a huge Harry Potter head it's not worth your time.

Very Disappointed
Thought this was the story. Different description or title would have been less misleading, Boring!

This is not a story
This is not a story. It is a textbook with undertones of the adventures Newt took to collect the information. Each chapter corresponds to a letter in the alphabet. The introduction is the closest thing to a story and it only hints at Newt's adventure in NYC as detailed by the movie.
The reader is the actor who portrayed Newt in the movie. He has a great voice and does well with this. There are no voices to portray, so he does not need the same voice acting skills as other audible readers. His performance works well and he has a very soothing voice.

Shards of Pottery!
This "book" is probably a must for Potter completists. However, it's worth mentioning that at the time of writing this review the linked Amazon reviews are a mixture of reviews about this book and the other books pertaining to "Fantastic Beasts" including the screenplay which could be confusing..
When you get a series as special as the Harry Potter books which captured the world's imagination it really makes sense to further explore the world and its artefacts and I'll admit to being a sucker for this kind of thing at times. This does just that and unless you've been hiding under a philosopher's stone somewhere you'll already know that it isn't another book about Harry Potter himself. Rather, it's one of the text books used at Hogwarts brought to life in some detail. Just for clarity then this is not the screenplay or even the story of the film, either of which would be rather excellent!. This is primarily an A-Z of the magical creatures of the Harry Potter world.
Each creature is explained in turn including its Ministry of Magic classification. There are various sound effects that add depth and at times amusing anecdotes about them. The performance given by Eddie Redmayne is as you would expect given his acting talent and involvement with the film; very good. After all this is not a story per se but a text book upon which stories were built. So it's not an easy one to read and get involved in as a narrator.
For a full credit it is of course a short book but given that so much of the proceeds are going to such worthwhile causes the whole thing makes sense for fans of Harry Potter who just want that little bit more of the magic. I do think that the latest physical versions of the book may be a better option though. I am a huge fan of audiobooks of course and often prefer the format to the written word but the beautiful presentation of the physical books and inclusions of extras such as handwritten notes purportedly by the characters means in this case the audiobook works less well for what is after all a reference book rather than a story.

strictly for fans of Harry Potter
it's a guide to magical beasts, and as such it's not very riveting for muggles. otherwise, as all the Rowling 's books, it's an easy and insightful read. interesting addition to wizarding world. and you gotta love Redmayne, he's simply amazing. I have to admit- it's pretty thrilling to hear his voice reading me a book!
for foreigners: while english is not my first language, there was no struggle in understanding and separating the words, even though made up or uncommonly used names often present themselves with a level of difficulty for me.

Save your credit
Please listen to a sample first and don't assume this is the story or indeed the screen play of exactly the same name which anybody would expect. This is nothing more than a list of creatures being described. Desperate times and a real shame

Disappointed
It's not a story, more of a reference book. Not what I had expected. Quite disappointed. Wouldn't have used the credit otherwise.

Not worth a credit!!
Would you try another book written by J.K. Rowling and Newt Scamander or narrated by Eddie Redmayne?
I know this is for charity... but many people will think that a audiobook that lasts less than 2 hours shouldn't cost a whole credit. With the movie release pending on DVD many will assume that this is the audiobook of the movie.
Would you ever listen to anything by J.K. Rowling and Newt Scamander again?
Not at this price
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Nope
Any additional comments?
Most expensive 1 hour 40 mins of my life!

Good addition to the Harry Potter world
Would you consider the audio edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to be better than the print version?
I really enjoyed it espically with it being read by Eddie Redmayne, me and my daughter played the audio book whilst readying through the book itself
Any additional comments?
The only people giving this a negative review are people who don't know what the book is meant to be,

I loved listening to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Eddie Redmayne did a great job of reading it and I loved learning about magical creatures.
