About this listen

Fallen Dragon is a classic standalone novel by science fiction star, Peter F. Hamilton.

Lawrence Newton always dreamed of adventure amongst the stars. Now the ultimate prize is within his grasp, but what will he risk to get it?

Lawrence is the sergeant of a washed-out platoon, taking part in the bungled invasion of yet another human colony world. The giant corporations call such campaigns 'asset realization', but in practice it's simple piracy.

When he's on the ground, being shot at and firebombed by resistance forces, he recalls stories of the Temple of the Fallen Dragon. Its priests supposedly guard a treasure hoard large enough to buy lifelong happiness. So Lawrence decides to mount a dangerous private-enterprise operation of his own.

Critic Reviews

Absolutely vintage science fiction. Hamilton puts British sci-fi back into interstellar overdrive
One of Hamilton's best . . . the book is undeniably a page-turner and should provide many absorbing hours for the author's existing readers as well as a salutary introduction to a major SF author for a new audience
A complex and gripping story, totally independent from his former work . . . For Hamilton fans this is a must-read. If you haven't read any Hamilton before, this is a good place to start
Easily his most personally affecting and cleverly written. Fallen Dragon is a love letter to star flight that recognizes the potential for humans to make a mess of anything, sincerely hoping that we won't

Really interesting look on the human nature and a great story, with a very fitting ending. Brilliantly performed by John Lee. I really like this author!

What a great story!

Story is good. Narration could use some editing to place a pauses between paragraphs. Sometimess it's difficult to tell there is a change of character, which can be confusing.

Good story but narration can be confusing

A big world build and character exposition makes this a real slow burn for the first few hours, but hang in there, cause things really take off. A great story all in all. Some unique concepts - hearing John Lee's cockney portrayal of a sex-crazed rookie space marine in way over his head was worth the purchase alone - he just gets better and better 😊

Takes a while to get going but...roars into life

I continue to listen to Peter's books but find them a little too soap opera in between good story development.
i miss Ian m Banks but Peter is still enjoyable.
It was nice to listen to a stand alone book and whilst the story was slow the concept grew with some nice ideas.
The narrator is ok but he tends not to bring out the sci fi nature of characters instead he tends to identify the characters to 70s accents. still good effort i certainly couldn't do it!

Good Time filler
