Publisher's Summary

Brielle Atwater isn't sure of much, but she knows a few things:

  1. Having black wings is not normal.
  2. Selling her soul to the demons was a mistake.
  3. Lincoln Grey is the biggest asshole she's ever met...but not falling in love with him might prove impossible.

When angels fell from the sky to war with the demons that ravaged Earth, their combined powers infected humanity. Now, the humans are assigned one of two fates, being either demon-gifted or angel-blessed.

After wings sprout from Brielle's back at her awakening ceremony, she's sure she's an angel-blessed celestial. It's not until she sees black wings that she realizes something is terribly wrong.

Having sold her contract at a young age to save her father's life means she should be bound for Tainted Academy. That is, until a fallen angel unexpectedly fights for her to be accepted into Fallen Academy, the elite school for those who inhabit Angel City.

She's immediately matched with her impossibly handsome celestial teacher, Lincoln Grey. Laying eyes on him, her first thought is that her time at the academy might actually be fun, but this theory quickly fades when she and Lincoln clash on day one. To further prove her admission into Fallen Academy is cursed, the entire school is thrown into chaos when an Abrus demon reveals that he knows Brielle's secret. Now, above all else, Lincoln must fight to protect her.

To his surprise, the only thing more difficult than trying to save her...is trying not to fall for her.

Misread names

Narrator read the wrong name a couple of times in the book which really confused me and detracted from the story. The first time she said Logan instead of Lincoln (Logan is a character from another book by the same author and narrator) and the other time she said Lincoln instead of Luke. Apart from this, a great book and great narration.

Loved it

I loved everything about this. The narrator had an engaging voice that really fit with the main character. I really loved the level of detail in the world-building. Bought book 2 straight away!

Engaging

The fantasy “Harry Potter” like plot is quite engaging and so is the magic system but I’m not sure where it’s going with the romance

It had potential but... erh

I was really excited by the concept when I saw this book. I felt like there were so many interesting places the story could have turned to but I was disappointed when it more or less became a college life/drama story set in a paranormal world.

very enjoyable

the narrator did an excellent job as well as the author. I found that this book was very easy to listen to and it kept me wanting more the whole way through. things I loved about this book is the author doesn't treat the reader like an idiot and spell every little thing out. it's written in a way that it gives you enough detail to know what's going on and doesn't spend 10 minutes on the main character sounding like the town drunk 15 hours sober. I have been listing to a lot of books over the years and that seems to be an issue for most. thank you to both the author and narrator for this excellent experience. see you in book 2

Teenage angst

The teen love angst is far too dominant in the story, otherwise a good yarn. The narrator was great.

Narration was awful

I could get through the story, but the poor narration made it a lot harder. The forced distinct character voices were so bad that they ruined any immersion in the scenes. The male voices were especially forced and sounded like a child pretending to be an angry man, with a growling tone. If the narrator wasn't good at voices, she should not have done them at all.

Names names names

The story is great and I love it but the narrator uses the wrong name is places.... at one point she calls Lincoln Logan and then she calls Luke Lincoln so you have to really pay attention so you know who is actually being referenced or is talking

Decent YA Novel

Not much to say really. its a decent YA novel with an interesting theme. Kind of your same old: main character is super special for some reason, they go to a school, there's a rivalry with 1 other classmate for no real good reason, there's a love interest, there's an evil force to fight against. the author plays around with those tropes well enough for it to be interesting. worth the $5 sale price i paid.

book great/ narrator needs to pay attention

I'm loving the book but when the narrator renames the main characters I was ripped out of my imagination. like an ice bath for my fantasy world right into the ear.

Great performer, ok book

This was an alright book nothing to rave about outside of the narrator. Vanessa did the voice of Willa in The Curse of the God series and she continues to do an amazing job. The main character of the novel is very generic. She’s super over powered and of course “special”. It was annoying how she couldn’t stop thinking about how hot the boys are at the academy. I didn’t really feel like there was a connection between her and Lincoln. They hate each other one moment and then we are suppose to believe they start liking each other in a time jump after a “few” months have gone by. It was a very generic story line. I wouldn’t recommend wasting a credit on this novel. It had so much potential.

Love the book, but unsure about the narrator

This book is pretty great. I bought it on a whim and am not disappointed! The author provides multi dimensional characters and a good amount of world building which is a huge plus in my book. The only thing that bothered me about the audiobook was the performance. The narrator would switch between saying "arch" and "arc" when saying things like "archangel". Also, I swear I heard her multiple times saying "Logan" instead of "Lincoln" for one of the main characters. It was a bit infuriating but once you get past the narrator's mistakes the story is really excellent.

Strictly for fans of the genre

If you like this genre and want a fun book that hits all the usual notes, this is for you. For me, it's confirmed I don't like the genre. I found the protagonist unappealing but maybe some readers would like her. My main complaint is the narrator, who has a repetitive rhythm and an annoying way of overemphasizing words. And please would someone tell her "archangel" is pronounced ARK-angel, not ARCH-angel.

I loved this book and listened to it in 2 days! However I am not moving into the sequel because from what I’ve heard it’s not as good as the original but it works well as a lone book!!!❤️

This book is amazing

I absolutely love this book. The narration is really good and the story is amazing. I would definitely recommend this book because it is brilliant and I think it is a very good purchase. The story is very captivating and the narration is very good. The second book in the series is also just as good as the first book and I would definitely recommend purchasing that book as well.

Fantastic Book Addictive Reading

I adore this book about a girl thinking she going to be a demon slave for the rest of her life. Ends up something different all together. Addictive Reading, Read in Two Nights Straight and looking forward to next one. This is a little gem shining bright for young adults who love romance and good verses evil and Angelis verses Demons. I loved this book.
