Publisher's Summary

Clear, concise and empowering self-help about navigating and healing from narcissistic abuse by Australia's go-to specialist counselor

The love of a narcissist is fake. It's a soul-destroying realization for every victim of narcissistic abuse, but even more damaging is finding yourself trapped and abused by the person who claims they love you.

Nova Gibson has helped thousands of people in their struggle to understand, extricate themselves and heal from toxic relationships and narcissistic abuse. Drawing on the expertise gained from a decade of working with clients and her global online community, Nova offers comfort, knowledge and powerful strategies to help you identify, navigate and survive this extremely covert, confusing—and dangerous—form of abuse.

In this life-changing book, Nova brings unparalleled insight into the lived experience of victims and helps identify the behaviors of narcissistic abusers, such as coercive control and gaslighting, pathological lying, the love bomb-devalue-discard cycle, hoovering, smear campaigns and many, many more. She also helps you understand covert and overt narcissism, and explores in depth the concept of trauma bonding, which creates a powerful connection with your abuser and explains why and how you're compelled to stay, even when the abuse is impossible to ignore.

In this deeply compassionate book, Nova offers hope, support and concise, practical strategies to break the toxic cycle, extricate and protect yourself ... and most importantly, heal.

LOVED this book

There are only a very few number of books that I listen to from start to finish. This is one of them. I particularly enjoyed the story line approach rather than just facts. It was insightful but just for my own experience but also in understanding what other people have gone through. I feel blessed in my recovery and hopeful of the future ahead . Thank you! 🫶🏻

Excellent guide

This book is an excellent guide to recognising the signs of narcissistic abuse, and suggested pathways away from the suffering & into healing.

As expected, the subtleties of my own experience with a partner who demonstrated many classical traits of a covert narcissist were not all addressed in this book. but there were more than enough relatable insights. Had this book been available 5, maybe 10 years ago, I would have made significant changes to my life early enough to avoid much of the suffering I have experienced.

If you are either questioning if you are indeed suffering abuse from a narcissist, or already believe you are and need guidance on how to best remove yourself from the situation, this book is excellent.

Fantastic! Written so well!

I'm a Long time follower of Nova. Inciteful, understandable, relatable, intelligently written. Every NPD survivor should listen! I have tried other psychologists. They were a waste of emotion, time, intelligence..... don't understand the vampirism of a NPD BUT....Nova does. She understands their complex, transactional thinking. Every law enforcement, lawyer, mental health professional should have to listen to this. I've already shated this to 10 NPD victims. There is so many of us!! Grey rock works! Fantastic Nova! I hope you can write a children's version one day to assist children of NPD parent.

Great insight

Excellent insight so I can navigate how I work with these folks. From a failed marriage to a narcissist, I’ve learnt that it is pointless to save these people although I’ve want to understand how I can help my kids thrive. This book helps me figure out what tools I need to use to make this happen.

Support through recovery

From start to finish, this book was a validating and strengthening support, while concise enough to avoid being repetitive, it didn’t leave out detail.

I feel like I read it at the right time, and I made sure I read some portions multiple times to allow them to sink in. If you are reading this, allow it to sit with you, wherever you are in the journey, because it represents a place where you are seen.

Highly recommend

What a brilliantly informative, supportive and comforting book! The reader’s voice is easy to listen to and holds a beautifully comforting tone which will benefit those who need the book the most, being those who have lived, or are living with narcissistic abuse. I highly recommend this book which provides helpful reassurance and guidance to victims of narcissistic abuse and shows them a path forwards.
