About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Rachel Held Evans: a must-listen for anyone on the journey of doubt, deconstruction, and ultimately faith reborn.

Eighty years after the Scopes Monkey Trial made a spectacle of Christian fundamentalism and brought national attention to her hometown, Rachel Held Evans faced a trial of her own when she began to have doubts about her faith.

In Faith Unraveled, Rachel recounts growing up in a culture obsessed with apologetics, struggling as her own faith unraveled one unexpected question at a time.

In order for her faith to survive, Rachel realizes, it must adapt to change and evolve. Using as an illustration her own spiritual journey from certainty to doubt to faith, Evans challenges you to disentangle your faith from false fundamentals and to trust in a God who is big enough to handle your tough questions.

In a changing cultural environment where new ideas seem to threaten the safety and security of the faith, Faith Unraveled is a profoundly moving, fearlessly honest, and relentlessly hopeful story of survival.

If you’re initial reaction is fear, read it. If it’s anger, read it. If it’s satisfaction, read it. If it’s excitement, read it. Listen with your heart, process with your mind. You won’t agree with everything and somethings are easy to absorb. Rachel is sincere in her story which makes it feel like she’s telling it with a cup of tea in hand.

Honesty, openness, wholeheartedness. If only everyone was as courageous as this author, to ask and investigate the heard questions; to look behind the heavy curtain to seek to understand the identity of the wizard of oz. I can’t imagine mine is the only faith that has been nurtured by this beautiful book. Forever grateful for her example.

Well articulated thoughts and perspectives

Great read, I feel like the author asked all the questions I've been asking and she doesn't try to give an easy answer or pretend she has all the answers. I liked her approach and open mind to other perspectives but also her willingness to admit she is not right and is in a journey. I will listen to it again an I'm looking forward to listening to her other books.

Easy to follow and thought provoking
