Science heavy for those of us who want the why

This isn't ra-ra touchy feely stuff, tho' it's highly motivating. This is section by section here's a tool, here's why it works, here are the results from when I tried it data driven advice. Each chapter ends with exercises to help you make the changes work and last.

My one complaint is with the audio format. Because of the chapter lengths, it's virtually impossible to back up and replay sections in your car or using a voice command Amazon device. I wish more audiobook producers kept in mind that reference book listeners need better divisions for stopping, flagging, rewinding, etc. But I wasn't going to punish the author by yanking a point from what turned out to be excellent information in a sea of "feel better" self help books that don't have much behind the advice. This one gives excellent and useful tools backed up by studies.

I was particularly struck around Chapter 7 or 8 with the observation that society trains people to be mediocre as a herd safety mechanism because it's dangerous to be an outlier (or words to that effect). Carrying that one with me.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Valuable self-improvement book

This was an excellent book about how to control yourself and create a better life. The premise is that the majority of human decisions are emotional, not logical. Becoming cognizant of this emotional bias is the first step to mastering yourself and accomplishing your goals.

The narrator is well-spoken and the audiobook was a valuable addition to my commute. Recommended.

Best book I’ve read in months

I heard this guy on Mark Divine’s podcast and figured I’d give it a try. I’ve read over 100 books on self development or biographies, and this is certainly among my top 5. Strongly recommend, will be purchasing this as a gift for friends. Great job Ryan!

Not Just A Catchy Title

In my search to begin making sense of a few things I was grappling with, this book initially caught my attention with it's title, but then kept me along with the sharing of real life stories and situations that I related to. So I read on and stayed engaged through each chapter, and even though I need to regroup and revisit some of the more complex topics, I very much plan on giving it a good second read, making sure my notes and activities are in order and fully answering each of the reflections from each chapter. All in all, this book was a perfect start to help me start an organized path forward, now well-armed with a number of tools to deal with or clear any obstacles previously keeping me idle.

Fuck your feelings indeed !

Fuck em, it's that simple , fuck your feelings, seriously , its not going to be easy , but if you want greatness , dont expect easy, if its easy then its probably not so great, is it?
let me tell you about myself , I have PTSD, depression, anxiety and I'm an ex addict, guess what , i got myself clean , no meds , no programs, rehabs, or meetings. The mind is a powerful thing , I did what everyone told me was impossible. I've hated myself for this addiction, for everything I've lost, everything I screwed up in my life, I didn't give myself credit for getting clean , let alone doing it on my own. I had absolutely zero love for myself , because I couldnt let go of my feelings of self hate and inadequacy, these feelings have controlled the past four years of life. I didn't think I deserved freinds, love , kindness, etc.
These feelings were destroying me , so saying fuck these feelings, and actually meaning it feels good. Reading a book that actually makes sense, and helps me understand my thinking and why I do what I do , has been insightful in so many ways , Fuck your feelings has personally helped me level up, it really does gives me hope , Ryan narrated the book as if he was talking to a freind, which I appreciate, It felt as if I had a freind talking to me throughout the entire read. A good freind too, not just some acquaintance , I'm talking bout a real freind who wants to see you happy and succeeding at life . I've listened to lots of self books and this has been one of the better ones .

Great content

Read so many self-help books. This is one of the best. Not your typical self help book. Highly recommend it.

great read and listen

if you want a good book that's true and blue about wanting to help you be a better human being this is the book for you. It gets very technical and into the science and logic sides it is not a raw pumped you up motivational book. the book to help you understand the way your body works and help you control and seriously say fuck your feelings become the masters of it.

Listen to the first half

The book starts off strong drawing some interesting linkages between your mental and physical health. Unfortunately by the midpoint it has descended into pseudo science and psycho blather concerning radio waves, grounding yourself to the Earth (like, physically to allow your electrons to"flow"), and sensory deprivation chambers. The author is not a natural narrator and his tone and cadence can be distracting.

Juvenile and Monotonous Narration

I wasn’t even able to get 30 minutes into this book, it was actually putting me to sleep the narrator was so monotone. Beware! Do not drive and listen to this book. I wanted to like this book, and was excited about it. However, even with the monotone narrative I found it to be repetitive and after a while hearing the narrator repeat the name of the book too many times to count I had to turn it off. Frankly not even interested in the paper version now. Horrible.
