Publisher's Summary

A special edition of Eye of the Needle by Ken Follett reissued with a bright retro design to celebrate Pan’s 70th anniversary.

It is 1944 and weeks before D-day. The Allies are disguising their invasion plans with a phony armada of ships and planes. Their plan would be ruined if an enemy agent found out...and then The Needle - Hitler’s prize undercover agent, a cold and professional killer - does just that. Hunted by MI5, he leads a murderous trail across Britain to a waiting U-boat. But he hasn't planned for a storm-battered island and the remarkable young woman who lives there.

Eye of the Needle, Ken Follett's breakthrough international best seller, is a heart-racing, exciting tale about the fate of the war resting in the hands of a master spy, his opponent and a brave woman.

Hang on to your seat!

This was brilliant - the plot, the characters, the narration, the pace - everything. It was so exciting and tense, and thrilling and engaging - I can't speak highly enough! And I'm not an easy customer as I'm forever exchanging books that either don't grab me at the beginning or start irritating me towards the end. This one is 10/10.

A real page turner.

This is an exciting , fast paced book. Beautifully written, and the narration by Sam West is brilliant. I think the characters are well drawn, and Sam Wests voices and accents are top notch. I'm keen to listen to more of Ken Follets books.

Excellent book

Ken Follett is clearly an excellent writer and the detail and narrative really immersed me in what it would have been like at that time of war. Thoroughly recommend.

Superb

A terrific story brilliantly read by Samuel West. The characters are well developed and the storyline builds to a great climax. Loved the epilogue!

First ever spy novel !

Great listen. Had me riveted. It’s the first time I’ve listened to a spy novel set in WW2. Won’t be my last. Great stuff.

Brilliant

I’ve been a regular user of audiobooks for a long time now and this is the best of its type so far. The story is full of intrigue throughout. One minute almost poetic, the next shocking. It really was difficult to pause! The narrator is one of the best and the writer addictively brilliant. Here’s to the next Follett.

Perfect listening for lockdown

A great thriller set during WWII that is as good as I remember it being when I first read it nearly forty years ago. The audio version is compulsive listening especially when read by the brilliant Samuel West.

Great delivery of a poor story

The performance is excellent and Ken Follett writes beautifully as always. Sadly, at multiple points in the book the plot is just ridiculous. Time and again the spy catchers allow their quarry to slip through their fingers in the most incompetent way. It is a shame, because better plot planning could have avoided the recurrent shattering of the illusion.

A gripping story

I love Ken Follett’s books and this was no exception. It took a while to get going, but once into it, I could not stop listening. My only criticism is that some on the location descriptions were too long. Recommended for anyone who likes a spy thriller.
