About this listen
‘An imperative how-to for creativity…I adore this book’ Nick Offerman
Adam Savage – star of Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters and one of the most beloved figures in science and tech – shares his golden rules of creativity, from finding inspiration to following through and successfully making your idea a reality.
Every Tool’s a Hammer is Adam Savage’s chronicle of his life as a maker. Through stories from forty-plus years of making and moulding, building and breaking, this book is a toolbox of problem solving, complete with a shop’s worth of notes on the tools, techniques and materials he uses most often.
This book will save you a few mistakes (and maybe fingers), as well as help turn your curiosities into creations. You will find everything you need to inspire you to build, make, invent, explore and – most of all – enjoy the thrills of being a creator.
Critic Reviews
'Adam has drawn for us an imperative how-to for creativity that goes well beyond scissors, saws and glue, to include vulnerability, self-confidence and self-deprecating humour. I am aware of no human outside of fiction more qualified to pen this rousing paean to making. I adore this book' (Nick Offerman)
'Careful, close, often repetitive work lets the brain wander back and forth, from the micro-task literally at hand to the bigger problems, solutions, insights and emotions that we usually drown out with stimulus. Believe me when I say: when you’ve made as many Blade Runner blasters as Adam Savage has, you’ve learned a lot about yourself. Adam has stocked up a lot of deep thought and deeper wisdom: about how to make things large and small, decisions large and small, and how to make sure you’re making the things that matter. Consider this book as a 3D print out of Adam’s brain, and be glad you have it' (John Hodgman, Bestselling author of The Areas of My Expertise)
'This book is creative rocket fuel. Adam is a master maker, and this might be his greatest creation yet - a funny, vulnerable and soulful dive into the beautiful mind of passionate artist. It’s about making stuff, but there is also philosophy, insight, and, most of all, inspiration. This book is so cool!'

'Artists, inventors, and creators of every stripe will find Savage’s work inspiring and informative, while Mythbusters fans and others will savor his many amusing “making” foibles and misadventures'
'A personal look at the importance of creativity in all walks of life'
'The handyman dad will love this book...Adam Savage challenges readers to take a deeper look at what inspires them when it comes to 'making and molding, building and breaking' offering his own tips and tricks along the way about his favorite techniques and tools'

I wouldn't say i'm a crafter in the sense that he is, but i certain create and enjoy cosplay - not to the epic degree he has but it certainly gave me great joy to hear about his passion projects over the years. I also loved that Nick Offerman, also famous for "making and paddling his own canoe" in life featured in the book, although did not narrate that section. Nice cross over.
I would recommend this book to anyone who makes and creates, with their hands or their minds.
Just to let you know, I work for Audible, but the views expressed in this review are 100% my own.
