En oktobernat for nogle år siden udspillede der sig et gidseldrama i de lille by Tilst, vest for Århus. En ung mand gik amok og tog et kvindelig gidsel, som han truede med at dræbe.
Gidseltageren mente det alvorligt. Politiet blev tilkaldt, og da dramaet havde varet mere end en time, begyndte gidseltageren at "tælle ned" til det tidspunkt, da han ville dræbe gidslet. Umiddelbart før den frist, som gidseltageren selv havde sat for drabstidspunktet, måtte politiet skyde gidseltageren.
Et drama, som kostede gidseltageren livet, og som har sat dybe spor, ikke alene hos den unge kvinde, men også hos de vidner samt politifolk og redningsfolk, der var til stede.
