Publisher's Summary

Australia is a proud country full of proud people, but exactly what are we proud of?

Comedian and history buff Ben Pobjie delves deep into Australia's past and has a good old rummage amongst the nation's personal effects.

With wit, perspicacity and a healthily elastic attitude to historical accuracy, the great saga of Australia is unravelled like an old woolly jumper. For anyone who snoozed through history class at school, this is the book to get you all caught up.

Superb Narration!!

What made the experience of listening to Error Australis the most enjoyable?

The Narrator's performance and the Author's clever wit!

Who was your favorite character and why?

There were so many great characters! But my fav was the Koori fella right at the start lol

What about Jim Pike’s performance did you like?

EVERYTHING! Can't wait to hear more of his entertaining voice/voices!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not "moved" me but I was laughing and entertained the whole way through

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended! Can't wait to listen to another Ben Pobjie book and listen to more narration by Jim Pike. Smiles all round on this one! :D :D :D

Good book but not for people new to Aussie history

Great book, but not recommended for people who don't know their Aussie history as some jokes are told at the expense of the facts

Interesting but cringeworthy

Some very interesting facts in this book but these are overshadowed by cringeworthy joke attempts in nearly every sentence.

You will spend most of your time trying to register if you just heard a fact or a bad joke..

A Diverting & Entertaining foray into History.

much like the wonderfully irreverent book "Girt", this retelling of Australian History has been both a romp and a kick in the teeth for stuffy historical accounts that fail to see the bias of their own tellings. These types of history are both informative and funny, leaving a far greater impact on the memory.
In much the same way that a good political satirist can both dig the boot in and reflect a greater understanding of the actions that were at play in any given time, this retelling of Australia's pre and post colonial subjugation, does a lot to displace the half histories of the past. It doesn't shy away from the fact that our history books have left a lot out. It doesn't go into a lot of depth on any one area, but it is astute in observing even the most powerful figures without romance.
The narrator was brilliant for his ability to voice the different players appropriately and still convey the story without being partial to any side.
I believe this should be part of the high school curriculum for those who believe they suck at learning history. This book (especially in audio format) will change their mind I'm sure.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and totally recommend this Audi book to all Australian's, even those who have studied history more seriously (as I have).

Not bad but hard to tell facts from jokes

A comedic history of Australia where historical facts are indiscriminately interweeved with fictional jokes and satire. The problem is if you dont already know the historical facts you wont get the jokes and wont know if its a joke or fact. Unfortunately i feel like i know less about Australian history because of the fictional jokes masquerading as fact...

Brilliantly funny and exceptionally well-performed

I learned quite a lot about our sunburned country, despite the pain from side splitting laughter!

Bloody Hilarious

Learned more about Australian History from this book than from school. A truly brilliant and hilarious work. Love it.

Good Aussie "fact"

A joy to listen to. The funny voices used primarily taward the later half of the recording occur just often enough to remain enjoyable. The book contains just enough truth to make the lies plausible. Over all I would recommend to anyone looking to have a basic, largely false understanding of Australian history.

About as funny as a fart in a bottle

The script follows the same "fact, fact as set up, topical joke" format through most of the first three chapters.

I can't say what the rest of the novel was like, as that was all I could stand.

Having variation on the same tired joke over and over got really grating, and wasn't even funny the first time.
